Glock 23X........Kinda

I've wanted a 23X ever since I shot a G45. Call it 5 years. The 45 is my favorite Glock and in 40, heaven for me. I bought a used but pristine G45 for a great price from a GlockTalkforum member. Soooooo....Key!!! Glock 45 frame and Glock 23 frame are identical in dimensions. Unlikely but could be a different composite recipe. Doubtful....G23 fire control unit to G45 frame. G45 fire control unit to G23 frame. I now have a 23X and for all intensive purposes, a Gen5 G19 with the 49mm slide on the old 23 frame.

I racked my noodle, and the only difference I could find was the 9mm V 40 ejector. Everything else in the lower is identical. I have 750 rounds down the tube and reliable as any other Glock off the shelf.

The beauty of Glocks is massive parts interchangeability, not the look. Cool post.

Glock is like an AR15 in that it's the Lego of firearms. What , basically, was the purpose of creating the "frankengun"? A G45 is taller (5.47" vs. 5.08"), so are you using mags from the G22 in it?

I have 2XL hands and the 17/22 frame fits me well. Big fan of the 4 but wanted the 45 in 40 cal not 9mm. 23X is just that. I use G22 magazines in it. 15rd Flush fit.

Nice job. Was having trouble figuring out what you said about the 23 and 45 frames have exact dimensions, and what difference it was making. Obviously the 45 frame is longer to accommodate more rounds and still allows the 23 slide to fit. Love a .40S&W. My usual carry is my old issued G23 Gen 4 from previous dept. Flung thousands of rounds downrange and only thing I've had to do to it is replace the "worn out" night sights that had gotten dim over the years. Don't have overly huge paws, so I still prefer the finger grooves on the Gen 4. I love the idea of the 23X, but think a taller frame would poke out a bit for appendix CC, which is how I carry. G23 is like Goldilocks.

Here's my Glock 'n Wesson 23X

Palmetto Dagger full size frame, G22 mags, modified SD40VE upper to work on Glock lower. Great gun!

Gen5. I don't believe Gen3 or Gen4 slide will work with the 4 frame. For all intensive purposes, G45 is a Gen5 but technically it's not ... if any of that makes sense.
sure they will. The only diff on slides is the back plate on Gen5. Which can either be solved with a $7 part or a bit of filing. The gen 3 frames won't accept gen4 or 5 slides though as the nose of the slide is too big secondary to the enlarged recoil spring system.

Not sure what you mean. The G45 is very much a gen5 pistol.

I guess I never thought about the gen5 G23 (with it's new 'fatter' slide) still using the G19-sized frame like its gen4 predecessors. Besides the 9mm ejector like you mentioned earlier, I can't see any reason why a gen5 G23 upper wouldn't work fine on a G45 frame with G22 mags which is your experience. Neat.

G45 is not technically a Gen5.

So far so good! I'm loving it.

Interesting. No idea why Glock is splitting hairs over its designation like that. It's a gen5 design. It's made with gen5 parts. It's a gen5 G19 with two more rounds, or a short gen5 G17. Glock saying it isn't a gen5 pistol is just silly.

Considering how easy this is to do, and how popular the 'compact slide/full grip' combo is (I have two in 9mm myself, a P320 and a Dagger), I'm a little surprised Glock doesn't market one. Maybe 40S&W isn't popular enough anymore to warrant having another SKU in their lineup.

Now what I want to see is a 'G26X', a subcompact G26 slide on a compact G19 frame. Glock will never do it but I was hoping maybe Polymer80 would make a frame like that. Oh well.

Agree...it really is a Gen5.

Glockstore is making a 26X right now

I don't care for the model 45, but to each their own. I say this having been issued a model 17, then 19, then 45 over my 25 year career. Also had a model 26 as a back-up/off-duty; it is the only thing I carry now that I'm retired.
