We have a couple who show up wanting money as well. It is sad and I strongly believe they are bad off on drugs. They don't get any money either. The likelihood of me giving someone money on the street is now zero. If in all probability it will be used to buy alcohol or injectable drugs then I don't want any part in that.

I see in your signature that you use Havoline synthetic. I've been meaning to try some of that. Can you send me a measly 4 quarts for my next oil change? Thank you in advance kind sir gentleman!

Havoline Pro DS is going the way of the dinosaurs... So, I am keeping what I have for myself and running it. It will no longer be available in my area after it sells out at O Reilly's.

No CJ-4 Donald.. now if you wanted Castrol 0w30 then I could help out with 10 qts

I have two stores by me. Would it be possible to send you some since it sounds like you're in need?

No no no no

I don't need any. It is just sad that I can't buy it anymore once it sells out at O Reilly's. I really do like the Havoline Pro DS. Ohh well.. I will likely run Mobil Super Synthetic it Castrol Magnatec 5w30, or Lubrigold.

What's wrong with Mobil 1? Especially as they have that $12 rebate and the price at Walmart went down to $22.88 for a 5 quart jug so it's $10.88 after rebate.

I used to get hit up for money at truck stops when I was driving long haul. I stopped being generous when I gave a guy a couple of bucks. Instead of buying something to eat, he bought cigarettes. If someone is hungry, they would buy something to eat rather than buy cigarettes. In recent history more and more people are looking for something for free and take advantage of other people's generosity.

....some people even get VIOLENT when their getting 'free stuff' is threatened......

I believe in being a giver and trying to help people. I have been burned before, and I'm sure it will happen again. But, in the end, as long as I know I did what was right, then that's all that matters.

Blessed is the person who can give without remembering and receive without forgetting.

I have occasionally helped someone whom I took for being pretty down on their luck with a quart or two of oil.
What the heck, I can afford to do so.
If I buy oil for a buck a quart or less, that means little to me but it may mean a lot to some lower income person who has to decide whether they can safely drive on or to buy the four buck a quart oil at the local gas station.
To assuage their pride, I'll let them pay me a buck or two if they insist, but only if they insist.
OTOH, we have panhandlers in every rest area here every summer who come up with some improbable story of either having had to spend all of their money on having their ride repaired and just needing gas money to get home or having left their wallet in some restaurant a couple of hundred miles back and just needing gas money to go and retrieve it.
I just tell these folks that I can't help them.
There is only grace in helping those in need.
You will surely get taken a time or two if you do, but in most cases giving something material and not cash is giving something the recipient truly needs and will value.
This is also why you should offer to feed a homeless person and not give them money. If they gratefully accept food, they really are hungry. If they turn their nose up at this offer, then they're probably trying to raise the coin for a bottle of Ripple or some street drug.

True overall. I have been burned before as well at times. Not often. But every now and then.

And trust me I never ever have forgotten people that helped me out at times as well. I only bring this up as a curiosity type question. Just wondering if others have been in a place to do that. I have done far bigger things than giving a quart of oil or a container of coolant to someone. But that doesn't need to be brought up at all.

This is true. When the free stuff crowd stops getting free stuff, they get angry. And burn down their own neighborhoods.

If they come down my street, I am willing, and able to give. I give the very best.

Hey Wolf359. I really don't care much for Mobil 1. Candidly I don't have a real good reason. I just don't prefer regular M1. I like Mobil Super Synthetic because it can be had for a reasonable price when on sale. Without rebates. I like a straightforward kind of deal typically. Mobil Super Synthetic is Dexos approved in 5w30 and that is more than good enough for me. MSS runs rather well in my Altima 3.5 VQ. Plus I get can get it at O Reilly's or Target. Which helps keep me out of Wally World.

They bloomed just beautifully, just like a flower in the spring. LOL

I'd be giving something in the 12 gauge or 30 cal variety.

I feel your pain. I won't give panhandlers anything any more. There is ample Social services available that freely gives to those really in need. If anyone really is starving, its by choice!

I saw a clip on an investigative TV a few years ago. They interviewed a "homeless" couple that frequented certain intersections begging for money. They fessed up, telling the camera they never have to work, as their panhandling nets them about $60K to $70K a year. They actually live in a nice house, and drive a nice car...

You can send in the rebate online. Normally I hate them too, but it was pretty easy last time. I might end up doing it again as other stores sometimes have it on sale along with a filter and the filter rebate makes it around $5 when the cartridge filter my car normally uses is in the $12 range and up.
