I've been testing different oils in my track car.(LS1 swapped 1992 Camaro)
Regularly sees 275F oil temps.
Give me some oil recommendations to try.

Test 1: Mobil 1 syn 10W30
Absolutely abysmal results.
That oil was not able to handle the high temperatures.
Very high wear results

Test 2: Redline 10w30
Ok lab results
No outliers.
Much better than the M1

Test 3: Redline 30WT
Amazing results, lower wear basically everywhere.
But kind of annoying because the oil has a short 2,000mile interval and can't be left in engines that aren't running consistently.

I'm going to test Amsoil's dominator next but y'all should give me some more recommendations.

High Performance Lubricants Bad Ass Racing 5w30 or 5W-40. That oil formula is bred from Sprint and Late Model racing so it's very comfortable with 280-300°F oil temp. It has multiple friction reducing additives working in synergy and went 10k hard miles in my wife's Mustang with good results. The owner himself, David Ward, races paved oval midgets.

How about Royal Purple 10w-40? They make a race version as well. This is what I've used in my RX-7 race car.

have you considered a oil cooler? bring those oil temps down and it’ll benefit whatever choice you go with. i will also second HPL if you have the budget for it. other wise i would try adding an oil cooler and trying some Valvoline VR1 or Mobil 1 0w-40.

I disagree. Hot oil is happy oil. The HPL BAS doesn't even reach peak CoF until 305°F. It's happy as a clam up there.

If you're seeing 275f oil temps I'd be inclined to use something like Mobil Delvac extreme 15w40 or even M1 racing 15w-50 but i don't think the extra viscosity of it is necessary. If you were just daily driving it with the occasional pull I'd say it's fine to use a 30 grade. Race oil levels of zddp and phos on both of them. I'm using 15w40 in the gas trucks I daily drive and they love it.

MoDTC is no a friction modifier?

Friction modifier =/= friction reducer. MoDTC interaction with other FM, AW, and EP additives can be synergistic or antagonistic. There's formulas in which, when added, it causes friction to increase. Motorcycle oils are less concerned with piston rings and valvetrain and more concerned with wet clutches in terms of friction.

the term used was friction modifier though, not friction reducer.

ACEA oils also don't use them, that's why they mostly work in motorcycles. It's an energy conserving oil thing only.

I think motorcycle oils are still being designed to not shear much when being abused by transmission gears and wet clutch when used in bikes that share the crank oil with those components.

When an oil add pack is chosen often there are compromises that have to be made to get all the different additives to work together. Adding ability to not shear MAY have required less than optimum selection of other additives that improve other properties.

A tracked car engine probably would see no benefit from an oil being shear resistant. And there are other areas of oil protection that oils with add packages not concerned about shear may be able to better optimize.

Therefore, even though a good motorcycle oil has a lot going for it, it may not be the best choice for a sometimes tracked car engine.

I appreciate the oil recommendations.
I added them to my list.
I can definitely test two or three of those in a race season for sure.
Just got a bulk order of Wix from Rock Auto as well. I'm ready.

As far as the 275F oil temps, I have a fairly sizable oil cooler.
I'm working on a custom radiator shroud that allows more air to flow through it at higher speeds.
I think my current C5 Corvette radiator fan/shroud is inhibiting air flow above 80mph.
