It looks like the 10% market share of Dollar shave club caught the attention of Gillette.

I prefer DE shaving and haven't purchased cartridge blades from Gillette in years. Some of their Russian made DE blades are good though.

I just started up with DSC had my first shave with them today. I think you are right. Starting to grab market share is starting to scare the big boys. Just goes to show that you don't have to pay 500% mark up to remove whiskers.

I still use the old double blade plastic cartridges. The other day at the local grocery, I was able to get two packs of ten blades (20 blades total) for $5. I have used these and the handle I have since about 1986. After shaving, I always make sure the blades are dried by "honing" them on a towel. I have, on occasion, been able to get four weeks on a blade by doing this.

surprisingly i still have after 1.5 years a five blade from (of all places) amway.
"honed" me (arm hair), t-shirt or towel.
i still have a 3 blade gillette made in Turkey(sentimental reasons, not used much in the last 10 years)

I use Gillette blades. Its the Profusion variety. I am not that hairy so I shave every 4th day with Gillette foamy shave cream. One blade lasts me 11 months. No tugging, bleeding and always a close shave.

Its a patent infringement Suit, the patent in question hàs to do with coating the blades....

The thing is, DSC doesn't make their own blades. They get them from dorco.

Unless im mistaken, this would be like coke suing walmart because the pepsi they sell tastes too much like coke....

Shouldn't They be suing the folks who make the blades, not the reseller?

Never have understood WHY people use blades with shaving cream. An electric razor is far more efficient and does a better job than a blade. THe added benefit is that an electric razor lasts probably over 10 years.

I know there are people that say "I can't use an electric razor". Can't? Does the razor jump out of your hand when you try to use it?

Cant use an electric as I kill the blades my wife bought me one of the nice norelco that uses the shave lotion and I killed a set of blades (3) in like 2 weeks not to mention 45 bucks for new blades , DSC blades work well for me

Couple this with "honing" them again, against the backside of your forearm, just before shaving and you can use them much longer.

To hone against your arm, raise your arm at the elbow, make a fist turned forward tightening your forearm and you've got a pretty good strop!

I use the Gillette Fusion triple blades and only shave every other day, by doing both the above I can easily use the same blade set for 6 months. I used one for a year just to see how long I could go!

Been doing this for at least the last 8 or 10 years.

Just away to try to bully them. When you make so much money on ridiculously priced razor blades you can buy a NFL team, you want to protect it.

Nonsense. Factor in the initial cost of a quality electric razor versus a double edge razor. My SuperSpeed is 57 years old and still going strong. How many electric razors will you go through in that amount of time given your 10 year or so lifespan? I can assure you I get a vastly superior shave from my half-century old SuperSpeed than you do with your electric razor.

Blades? You don't need to join a club to get them. Amazon has 100 pack of double edge blades for $12 or $13, and at a new blade each week that package lasts me a couple years. A can of good shaving cream is $4 or so, again that lasts for several months. For about the cost of your electricity I get a better shave.

An electric doesn't get anywhere near as close as a DE razor does on my facial hair. My face feels like fine-grit sandpaper right after using my Braun electric. My Merkur 32C with a Personna med prep blade or a Feather blade gives a very close shave that lasts all day.

Gillette's getting scared. Nobody likes paying a lot of money for shaving, and are turning to cheaper alternatives. Such as DSC or growing a beard.

Norelco rotary blades practically never get dull, but they will stop cutting after even a slight amount of gunk builds up between the leaf springs and the hard part of the blade. You have to clean them with a brush every couple of weeks.

That's little more than your opinion.

Been there Done that, returned to DE blade shaving 10 years ago, will never go back. Use a mug & brush too BTW.

This.

When I was younger I asked my uncle why he used a safety razor. He said he has used it as long as he can remember, and it works.

I got a cheap handle and 100 blades for less than $20 5 years ago. I have 65 blades and have used them for a bunch of other things. Safety razors don't give me razor burn (electrics do) and they are cheap. I grow a beard too so I love the sharp lines a safety razor gives. If I nick myself it heals way faster. I also have super thick facial hair, so being able to crack it open and clean it is huge for me

I go through a can of barbasol (sp?) Once a year or so I get 8-10 shaves out of one cheap blade and I could double it by flipping and alternating.
The only thing I can't do is drive and shave, and half the year that would suck bad anyway

I like my wet/dry electric shaver when I'm running late for work. Wet it shaves nice and close. Dry, I'm still getting used to. My last one cost under 50 bucks and lasted over 10 years, cheap enough over that time.

Weekends, I use my nice old DE. New blades are nice and cheap.

I wish DSC well, those cartridges shavers sure are expensive.

I end up having to use both.

at first I just used an electric, used the circular rotating, kind, and the vibrating bar kind, to do my whole face with the electric, and get a satisfactory shave (ie: no random pockets of neck stubble)takes me twice as long as it does with shaving cream, and a manual razor in the shower. (added bonus of the shower, if i do cut myself, the blood washes off while the clot forms under the surface, no scabs!)

then i use an electric (bar type)just on my upper lip. I have a wonderful combination of a "beauty mark" mole(like Cindy Crawford), and the angle where my nose meets my lip, has been sliced far to many times trying to get those extreme upper hairs with a blade....

I had issues with electric shaver until I learned how to use one. I now use an electric as my daily shaver and a Mac3 if I am going out to dinner or Church or some other function. Electrics are great IF you learn how to use them. Ed
