From what I understand the Genesis GV80 3.5T GDI motor runs hot

Dealer has been putting in 0W-30 full synthetic & I’m going to start having them done locally at a highly recommended shop

For winter the 0W-30 is fine as it can get down to -45 or colder since we go to Canada every Christmas

Anyhoo, summer we go to NC and the Florida Keys visiting family and I’m wondering about putting in a 5W-30 this spring before we hit the road

Owners manual calls for the below oil & I’m thinking Red Line 5W-30 & will have about 33k miles on the car.

Thoughts on changing to 5W-30 please and thank you

SAE OW-30, API SN PLUS/SP or
ILSAC GHF-6"5

Not much of a change really. Switching to Mobil 1 0w40 or any Euro rated 0W-40/5W-40 seems more reasonable.
Here in NC climate I run all cars on SuperTech Synthetic 15W-40 or Amalie Elixir 5W-50. Happy engines and happy wallet make happy me.

Runs hot? How high a temperature have the oil and coolant reached?

All I know is 3 different dealers 2 in the Midwest and one on the East coast have said the engines run hot and to check oil & go with a 3k mile oil change in the summer

Will look into OW-40 last summer on the outer banks & then down the coast to Fl she seemed to run really hot & when we had the oil changed in Florida the dealer recommended 5W-30 for summer

I hate to tell you this, but, thicker oil runs hotter. I'm sure the 0W-30 is fine.

I was under the impression thicker oil was better under high heat and had less viscosity loss/breakdown

All engines run hot. How hot? It is determined by the cooling system. HOWEVER, your oil temperature does not indicate what the oil is actually exposed to around piston rings, journal bearings, etc. Genesis ain't gonna have oil cooling capabilities of BMW M3, but it probably has oil cooler and keeps oil temperature below 240f.

Full synthetic does not mean anything. It could be Mobil 1 Advanced Fuel Economy that shears down super fast, or Mobil 1 ESP 0W30 that is probably currently best OTS oil 0W30 in low-SAPS category.

I would run 0W30 too.

Your cooling system will keep oil temperature in check. 0W or 5W, the difference is in cold cranking, NOT what oils can sustain in a high-temperature environment. BMW generally runs super hot, probably hotter than Genesis, yet they recommend 0W12 for all regions of the US. Also, ambient temperature is not big deal. Altitude is the one that tests cooling systems.
That being said, I personally would run Mobil 1 ESP 0W30.

Redline Performance series is very good oil. I personally would go HPL over Redline if you want boutiqe oils:
