Generally not impressed with the new VWs

Since the Passat has been reverted to the B4 transverse engine set-up, it is now just an over-priced, stretched Jetta???
Given their current quality ratings & the failed Phaeton venture, I would have to wonder if $30k-$40k 'large Jettas' are going to sell?
More things to break:
- Moving headlights...hopefully it won't go wall-eyed at just out of warranty! MB did this loooong ago. Where are they with it now?
- Umbrella in door. Why?
- Climate controlled glovebox. Again, why? Maybe the duct is the access point to replace the high-failure rate heat exchanger & blower motor w/o having to pull the dash @ $900 in labor. (Maybe VW engineers Googled "blower motor steak knife" and had a momentary period of rational thought?)
It will be neat to see how VW tries to turn around over the next few years.
I agree with buying a Corolla over a Jetta. Same look, good fuel economy, less initial cost, and a tad more reliability.

I agree... Ive been very happy with the costs of parts for my MBs and BMW... my saab can have parts, from the dealer for very fair prices... Ive been very impressed.
I have heard that VW parts are $$$, but never had firsthand experience.

Sounds like VW is just as clear about their fuel requirements as they are about their oil requirements. Give me a break! It's too bad VW can't get their act together because I think they make decent looking cars.
Right on Willy. I think VWs have become as quirky as this thing.
Believe it or not, when I moved to a small town a few years back, my neighbors thought my old VW Scirocco was "That car from Back to the Future"!!! It made me laugh.
I love my Scirocco. My wife won't let me get rid of it. It is an early '83 with the small rear 'wing' and single front wiper, leather, cruise, etc... Nice car for '83. A lot of the mechanicals are still OE!!! Then VW lost their focus.

I had a Mars red 1980 model and a tornado red '89. If you see a mint Mark II, it still won't look dated, although the last Mark II was built in '92. By the way, Sciroccos were not built in Wolfsburg like most other VWs, but they were assembled at the Karmann coach factory in Osnabrück.
And VWs are supposed to be "people's cars", not RR's.

I'm not surprised. The DeLorean and Scirocco (Type 53/Mark I) were both designed by Giugiaro. I had both, an MK I and an MK II.
