Has anyone used this tire?
Opinions on its general driving characteristics on pavement? Off (will gravel chunk them to pieces)? Inclement weather behavior (they've got themselves a snow flake rating)?
Any direct comparisons to the BFG AT since it looks like a knock off of it.

I'm also considering the Toyo Open Country AT, considering how soft they physically are I suspect with my driving style (on pavement) I'll have them worn to slicks in no time. Just adding this tire on the odd chance somebody has used them and the Generals.

The lack of 15" tire and size choices today is eyebrow raising, especially snow tires.

Alex.

I use the Grabber AT2 for dedicated snow tires on my Ford Econoline van (wheelchair modified)(235-75-15XL). I really can not believe the deep snow traction that they give me. I've got out of places where the snow was much higher than my ground clearance. My wife has total confidence when we load up our son in his wheelchair and go for a snow drive in a blizzard just for fun. I liked them so much for winter that I bought another set for my Blazer(225-75-15). When I sold the Blazer, I kept the tires and use them for winter on my Dakota. The 235's seem to do slightly better in the snow than the 225's, not sure if it is the tires or the vehicle or both. Ice type traction is average.
The road noise is less than you would expect. The handling is better than you would expect for normal driving.
When these tires give up the winter traction ghost, I will definitely buy them again.
Have not used them for a full summer, I use Michelin LTX M/S.
Paved road use only but no chunks are missing in 4 seasons of use.
Have not used the BFG or Toyo.
Hope this helps you out.

Thanks. Every opinion helps. Positive reviews obviously keep them as a valid choice.

Maybe. Probably. =-) I'm of the wider is better for winter driving group. I've run skinny and wide over the years. Conditions dictate which wins. I hate skinny for the fact they dig down to the slippery stuff below and stop moving forward. I really hate when a tire I like gets discontinued (ie Hankook Winter 909--excellent!) Which brings us right back to selecting whats available.

Consumer Reports this month (Nov '08 issue) did a SUV and pickup tire test. In the "All-Terrain" test the General Grabber AT 2 came in last place out of 14 tires tested (Pirelli Scorpion ATR was #1).

Interestingly the General Grabber HTS placed first in the "All Season" test.
