Gear oil for auto locker

I decided that I'm not going to install my limited slip, and today ordered a Powertrax Lock-Right for my Ranger.

My question is this:

The owners manual for my truck calls for 80w-90 gear lube. I have been running syn 75w-90 (currently have SF in there and love it!).

The install manual for the Lock-Right says that if you live in a warm climate to run 85w-140 to help smooth out the operation.

Should I stick with the 75w-90 or move up to a 75w-140? I like the idea of the thicker oil (the Ranger FX4 Level II is the only Ranger that calls for 75w-140, and it uses the Torsen L/S).

Will this switch have any effect on my mileage? I plan on staying with syn.

Thanks for the help,
Brian

I have the Lock-Right in my 1992 plow truck. Are you going to be using this truck off-raod a lot? The lock-right is not the best for driving on the street a lot because there is only mininal slip and it can bind turning tight corners, I have noticed this. I have not had any problems with it though. btw-The manual says there can be noise assoicitated with the operation but I dont' heard it at all and I have listened for it. When it was on the hoist and you turn the wheels, you could hear it clicking. I had mine professionally installed, only took them 3/4 of a hour.

This is a truck I mainly use during the winter months to plow snow and get around where the roads are snow covered and slippery 75% of the time. For evryday around town driving you may not like this locker.

I put Amsoil Series 2000 75W-90 in mine.

I run a lockrite in my front Dana 30 differential on my TJ. Great locker, cheap and works well. I use 80W-140 in the diff to quiet down the ratcheting of the locker locking and unlocking when in 2wd. In 4wd when it's locked it's virtually silent.

I got my Lock-Right installed today.

After talking with Mola, I decided to go with SF's 75w-140 gear lube. It's a great fit with this locker. (Thanks to Mola for getting my lube to me so fast - I was waiting on it to install my locker)

The teeth clicking is very quiet, and I can't tell any difference from using SF's 75w-90 with the open diff (take off or bogging down). The traction is AWESOME

. I'm very pleased with this locker!

I've run lock rites at both ends in my Toyota 4x4 for about 11 years now and 90-100k miles. The lockers have held up great but I'm on my second set of rear gears and they are starting to whine. The first set was OEM and had 75k on them when I added the locker. That set lost a few teath off the ring gear. This is common according to 4x4 sites.

Is there a chance I'm using an inadequate oil. Regular Dino 80-90 What should I use, obviously the factory recomendations might not cut it. Or is this just one of those things.
