Anyone with Modular Fords using 0w30 GC? I'm interested in using it in my 97 TBird and in our 02 F-150. They both have the 4.6 V8. I use 5w30 in both vehicles, and was thinking about giving it a try as I can get it from a friend who recently got rid of his Jetta. I wouldn't have ever thought about it, but he's gonna sell it to me for 2 bucks a quart! I mean how can I pass up 15 qts of GC for 30 bucks?! Opinions? Thanks in advance, guys.

do you know if there would be any fuel mileage penalties? i have heard that it is a thick 30wt..

Is that all people think about these days??? Keeping the tires at a proper inflation will give more of a fuel mileage improvement than any oil...

I ran 10W-40 in my old modulars, two Grand Marquis and a '95 T-Bird, none of them ever complained...

No, I was just curious. I mean we own an F-150, do you really think I care if I lost .5 mpg?? If I cared about fuel milage only I wouldn't drive 4 V8s and an old I6.

Were they backspec'd to Xw20?

the 02 f-150 was spec'd for 5w20 and the tbird was originally spec'd for 5w30, back spec'd in 2001, I think. I run a 30wt in both during summer...

I disagree....

I had a 2008 Ford Mustang GT 4.6L that actually gained efficiency after switching from Mobil 1 5W-20 to Amsoil 0w30 SSO. The car averaged 1 mpg better consistently after the change.

My guess is...Mobil 1 5W-20 contains a percentage of refined petroleum. Amsoil SSO doesn't, as it's a true synthetic, thus resulting in better efficiency.

Not a chance.

You may have just got better ring seal from the heavier oil, or perhaps the SSO has moly or some other "super slippery" compound in it that reduced friction over what an API licensed oil is allowed to have in it.
