Has anyone else had a problem finding GC since the recent Castrol Edge rebranding? I was in Pep Boys this week and had to do the usual check of the wall-o-oil. I couldn't find Castrol 0W-30, either a bottle or a tag for stocking them. Is GC being phased out at Pep Boys?

I'm hoping not, I thought I finally settled on an oil for my Miata after a year and a half.

I'm not sure if GC is being phased out, or if it's being included in the rebranding of Syntec to "Castrol Edge with Syntec Technology". I just found "orphan" bottles at Autozone. All the other Syntec was in the Edge containers.
I picked up 10 with the Bosch filter special. Normally, I hold out for K&N, but...

The local WalMart here in Orlando had the 5 quart Gold Jugs of Castrol Edge, 5,10w30 SM, GF-4, (which exceeded the GF-5 requirements), and made in January of 2011, on clearance for $21. I picked up 4 Jugs of the Edge 5w30 to bring back to NYC. The new Castrol Gold Jug Edge with Titanium, SN,GF-5, was at the regular price of $29.50.

I don't know if they are clearing out some or specific oil, Castrol Edge at that store was a good deal for $21. I also picked up the last Pennzoil's Ultra 5w30 for the clearance price of $7 and it was made in September of 2010.

This may be a silly thing to say, but has anyone bothered to check the back of the label of Edge with Syntec Tech 0-30 to see if it says "made in Germany". Maybe Castrol is just consolidating the bottles to save money?

Jeff

I tried getting some at Pep Boys a month ago with their oil change special and when I inquired the store manager said there was a hold from the manufacturer on them and they had no way to even order it.

Whether that is related to rebranding to Edge with Syntec or separate, I don't know.

I couldn't find any Castol product in 0w30 at the local Pep Boys. 0W-20 they had, but not 0W-30.

In the Chicago area, GC at Pep Boys has always been spotty. Some have it, some don't. And when they run out, their replenishment is slow.
