Gasket brand preference

Ahhh, my memory has been jogged! The SOHC Mits 3.0 was a known smoker and valve cover Gasket leaker.

Cast aluminum valve covers with a rubber gasket which would shrink with heat and time leaking oil onto the exhaust etc.

Also know for leaky valve guides which made some smoke like 2-strokes. If you want to keep the engine, I'd highly recommend sending your heads to a local engine machine shop for guide replacement and guide seal upgrade.

Got one of these headed my way as soon as he gets it built.

I’ll be replacing my passenger side valve cover gasket and spark plug tube seals on my Crosstrek very soon. Went with OEM.

With the way things get rebranded nowadays, I'm not entirely sure brand even matters because you don't know who really manufactured it. eg. On a Ford thermostat gasket, there's an "improved" version of which both the Fel-Pro and Mahle product effectively have the same design but they colored the elastomer a different color.

With Fel Pro, they probably do manufacture most of theirs generally, especially if it's in their blue color.
