I'm staying near Dayton, OH for work for a few weeks.

In 24 hours the price of reg gas has gone from $2.29 to $2.89 at all of the stations around me and driving to work.

Is this normal for this area? Seems a little odd...

BP refinery at Whiting, IN had an unplanned stoppage. It affects about 50% of their production, so the effects of the problem are being felt quickly. Gas is going up in KC area, after several declines, due to the supply issue created at the Whiting refinery.

That BP refinery is not far from where I live and paid $2.39 on Tuesday. On my way home it was $3.19. It's crazy that they can raise it that much.

Chicago spot prices went nuts after the unplanned shutdown at BP in Whiting, IN. Its rippled into all the adjacent markets as well. Twin Cities prices went up about 30 cents a gallon yesterday (though adjustments of 20-25 cents a gallon are somewhat normal due t the structure of the Twin Cities gas market).

gasbuddy.com/GasPriceMap shows California in red, the rest of the country are in orange or yellow or green(below $3.0).

The current average in California is $3.62 and Orange County is $3.85.

I am happy to pay $3 everyday.

1 oil company's refinery affects 50% of it's production, no other oil company's production just BP's........and all the other oil companies make untold billions of dollars, unbelievable. Well we now know where America's weak spot is....God help us.

Wednesday morning seemed to be the spike. Some were already at $3.39 and others were still holding at $2.59. By noon all of them were over $3.35. Most of them rolled back about $.20 today. It's funny how the already purchased fuel in the underground tanks suddenly increases in value.
