I often read where someone will say that Costco gas is the cheapest. That's not the case in my area. Is there a Costco gas points system I don't know about?

Curràntly gas buddy shows Costco to be $3.89 for regular. It also shows other stations near Costco that are the same price and even a few cents cheaper.

What am I missing?

Typically 10 to 20 cents less expensive around here.

Hmmmmm. I don't keep track of gas prices too much, but Costco in mid-Michigan seems to normally run 10 to 25 cents less than other stations. I just looked at Gasbuddy and the ten local stations with cheapest gas at $2.75 per gallon are all the same as Costco.

I wonder if when gas prices dip towards the low end like right now, the profit margin is so low that Costco cannot out compete the other local stations?

Depends on the geographic location. I filled up at Costco yesterday at 2.499 and the QT nearest me was 2.799, a savings of 30 cents. Sometimes the savings is only ten cents or so, depending on many other factors. This was not the cheapest gas in KCMO metro, but very convenient to where we were for appointments and errands.

On a separate note, Sam's, Costco and Buc-ees are going at it in Springfield, MO at 2.259.

Some nearby stations try to match Costco, but at this Costco in particular, everyone else was 2.759 to 2.799, except for Sam's Club.

Here on the NE side of the KC metro Costco and Sam's Club are 10 miles apart. They are always 10¢ higher than in Independence where Costco and Sam's are 1 mile apart. The other day Murphy's was cheaper than Sam's in the NE part of the Metro.

There are occasions where I find cheaper prices elsewhere (like last week when I got gas for 135.9 per liter at Petro Canada and the Costco near my girlfriend’s place was 139.9). But most of the time it ends up being about 5 cents a liter cheaper than the surrounding stations and I have even seen it where it was 15 cents a liter cheaper! Overall I figure I save a few hundred bucks a year buying gas at Costco. And the one I go to isn’t crazy busy either. Even on a Saturday afternoon I usually can pull straight up to an empty pump with no wait time.

There's an unbranded Chinese restaurant with two sad pumps that's the cheapest in my area, and nine cents cheaper than Costco. Agree that the warehouse clubs are the place to buy premium, though, and propane as well.

Costco is usually around $0.30 less around here, no points system. 4% rebate for gas purchases if you have their CC (all gas purchases, not only gas purchases made at Costco)

Costco- 4% gas rebate with Costco Credit card. In most locations it's Top Tier Gas. It's usually as stated .10 to .20 cents less- then factor in rebate that maxes out at $ 7,000/ year for gas purchases. Your area could be an anomaly.

Probably that the listings you show are reported incorrectly, or they are “with car wash” prices, or cash prices.

If you do a drive by and the listings are correct, it’s an anamoly.

Now, where I live, there is a 76 dealer less than everybody else by 10 cents since they opened. They are in fact less than Costco 12 miles away. Costco, is less than everyone else in their area.

Since we have a 5% cash back gas card I always have to use 2 cards—1 for membership and 1 for payment. I get full serve in NJ and ever since requiring membership, they seemed immediately ready to have 2 cards handed to them. They can’t tap to pay like they do with folks like you, who are the vast majority (4% rebate on gas).

Yes-use the Costco card for travel purchases as well. Current rebate amount is over $900.00.

Costco gas even within 30 miles of each other can vary a lot. my costco is $3.89 . Drive 25 miles to another one and it $3.29. Costco sell a heck lot of gas. i once asked an attendant how many times a fuel truck shows up and a day and he said it around 5 .

I had a dispute on a transaction and BAC refused to credit (I am in the right and why I don’t think CC afford the protection many believe). They are 3% restaurants.

I switched to using Costco for 3% at restaurants when 5% rotating is not in effect…

One thing is Costco is 1x per year not cash anytime. Also must remain a member…

Heard the same thing. Gas prices can change within hours as well-due to multiple deliveries.

That's true. I don't find the once a year rebate a big deal. We have another card where we can order gift cards or put the rebate towards the balance on the account.
I am a current dispute with Royal Caribbean who owes me a statement they promised two weeks ago-but that's another thread.

If you had a legitimate dispute that you believe the results were incorrect-your best bet is to file a compliant with you state Attorney Generals Office against the original party who put the charge on your credit card statement.

Then be their worst enemy on Yelp, Google Reviews, etc. Again-make absolutely sure it's an illegitimate charge.
