Al, Ugly3, Buster, John Browning and TallPaul would be worthy choices as well in case we could afford to add more than 1. Im probably missing a few others that post a lot but we have some good people here.

Those guys are all active and smart.

i like john brownings unconventional use of exclimation marks. you can awalys tell its him even without reading the username.

Bugshu,

Of the 8 moderators we have some that arent active and havent seen to contribute as much.

I will try to explain what is going on. First of all, Joe, Wayne and Larry spend their time doing the Program work. In fact we are backed up in that department. They are compiling info and data for the BITOG library. All 3 have families and work when they can on the Board.

Patman, Rugerman, Dan, Jason and myself spend our time working with the Board. Between us, I alone spend as much as 3 hours a day answering emails and PM's and doing research. So I am sure they have an equal amount of time spent on things that don't get on the Board. Again, we all have families and personal obligations that must come first.

Our goal as Moderators is not to post, but to try and ensure that the board is flowing with topics in the most appropriate forum, and reading each and every post. But we are also Members and do post when we can contribute. Some members don't want us to post is the other side of the coin.

I personally think that every poster we have would make a good Moderator.

I will close with a saying that I think is appropriate:

"Remember Moderators are Humans, and it is OK to disagree with them on technical issues, but if it is personal, us the PM or email function".

no good deed goes unpunished.

moderator would be a tough row to hoe, and hardly a "promotion."

imo.

(gary allen is the dude, though)

alright 59 vetteman, heres a technical issue i would like a little help on. one of my posts was deleted yesterday. i have no clue why it was deleted or who done it, but i think that if a moderator deems it nessassary to delete someones post, they should have the curtocey to pm the member and give them a brief explination as to why it was deleted.

afterall, i cannot learm from my mistakes if i do not know what i have done wrong and i have no clue what i did. now, dont get me wrong i have no problem with deleting posts, however it should accompany a short explination.

what do you think.

Crypto,

Here is your technical answer from above:

"Remember Moderators are Humans, and it is OK to disagree with them on technical issues, but if it is personal, us the PM or email function".

When I stated all members on here would make good Moderators, maybe I used to big of a paint brush, I had forgot about you.

I would agree that people work hard for this forum. Perhaps it would be helpful to get some more volunteers to help out a bit.

Maybe you could pick active guys and assign them a forum. Im all for moderators posting if they want to and not posting if they dont want to as long as they are involved with the board.

I could see picking a moderator for each forum. Pscholte could be a moderator for GC and John Browning for the Repair forum.

The options are endless.

We have 40 forums not counting the board issues and site sponsers forums which I think you 59vetteman should moderate.

I could see having 40 moderators and 1 for each forum and then if someone made a decision or needed something appealed then they could appeal the forum moderators opinion up to a higher authority which would be 59Vetteman who could make a final decision.

Its a lot of work moderating all of these forums and Im guessing that you could use some help. There would certainly be people thrilled to volunteer and roll up their sleeves.

Im not criticizing the job anyone is doing. Im just pointing out that maybe some help is in order. Bitog is growing pretty fast.

Happy Motoring All,

I think the board and moderators are great. They do what they are supposed to do and do it very professionally. I look at other forums but do not join because they are crude and out of control. This board provides great info and posters who break the rules are dealt with in a very fair manner. Keep up the good discussions.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Like Tony said, just because some of us choose not to post much
wink.gif
, does not mean that we are not lurking on the site or taking care of things behind the scenes. I have said this before, there is a TON of work that goes on behind the scenes that many people do not know about. Hey, as long as the boss(Vetteman) is happy, I am happy, Joe

Thank you for the very kind words. The mods here are outstanding. They jump in when they have something to say ..and stay in the background doing what mods do. They don't always participate to the degree you would imagine ..but it's more likely that they are letting others evolve at their own pace. You see it all the time. A noob comes in ...posts the same question that you've seen for the upteen time ..and you just may let one of the former noobs give the education. It's kinda like a "freshmen class" type thing. Once in a while there's something we can all sink our teeth into that we all can enjoy ..but you'll notice that sometimes the seasoned members sit back for only those topics.

..but as much as I'm honored by your suggestion ..as Tony and some of the other mods well know ..I'm not wrapped tight enough for such a position. There are far too many times that I get very "spirited" in my posting. It has to be checked from time to time. I've often thought how bad I would feel if some newer member got the bad end of a low blood sugar post of mine ..and just shrank away into the background.

No, I'm nothing special (although some say my education cetainly was
grin.gif
) ...just a regular guy who is more curious than anything else. I have picked up a few things along the way ...and am more than happy to pitch in when someone's in a jam ..for whatever its worth.

This is fun for me.

Again...thanks.

Even when you might not see me post much in a given day, that doesn't mean I'm not around. I usually visit the site 2-3 times a day, sometimes more. But I just don't post every thought that comes into my head like I used to do. Besides, I need to let some of you catch up to me in the post count dept.

That's funny, I thought I was the only one who thought this!

I equate it to a passionate nature to help people. He certainly seems like a genuine, honest person with excellent advice to share.

There are certain people who are such huge assets to the board that they need special recognition. Gary Allen is one of them. Hes closing in on 4000 posts and dispenses advice in the maintenence forums and he seems like an overall good guy. Hes doing an oil filter test right now much like Bob did and what can you say about his presence here that isnt positive?

Of the 8 moderators we have some that arent active and havent seen to contribute as much.

Gary Allen is always around and always helpful.

The board is growing and I dont see that it would hurt a thing to promote Gary up to moderator status.

Well, I'm going to throw my $.02 in.

First, Gary is certainly a great contributor to the board. He's one of the many that make it worthwhile and fun to hang out here. Gary is that ideal neighbor you wish you had that is always available when you need some help on something around the house or your vehicles. That is, if you don't mind living next to someone who reminds me of Dr. Emmett Brown from "Back to the Future."

Second, the moderators do an outstanding job here. Not only do they do tons of work behind the scenes, they do an excellent job on balancing the need for some semblance of civility while allowing a good bit of freedom of speech. My hat is off to them, too. It can be a thankless job being the forum cop, assistant principle, etc.
cheers.gif

Third, I like John Browning's post also. Not only is he knowledgeable, but you can kid around with him and he doesn't take anything personally. I'm not sure of his heritage, but I sometimes think I almost can hear the Nordic accent of a Master Mechanic in his posts.
grin.gif

Now as far as making Gary a moderator, would you consider Dr. Emmett Brown for such a position?
tongue.gif

Well, I've said it before, but not nearly enough...this board is awesome and the moderators do an outstanding job. I appreciate what Bob has done as well as everyone who works in the shadows. I discovered this board about 2.5 years and joined 2 years ago. There is SO much information and helpful people on here.

Plus, the board is not run by a gustapo group so to speak. I've been a member of another board (tds) for about 7 years. That board has changed alot lately. It's almost like a communist community...of course that is the board owners right.

Again...thanks 59vetteman, bob, and all the others.

I guess that I get the last laugh now !!!!!

*HeH*

Who knew ???????

Now if I could only laern to spael !!!!

Go Gary !!!!!!
