So I'm in the middle of Metro 2033 and my computer just shut off. It turns back on but the screen in blank. Nothing is there. All the case fans, video care and cpu fans, HD and cd-rom power up but nothing happens. I switched out my video cards and nada. I'm assuming my motherboard died.

I would have guessed power supply for sure. They commonly go bad, or make your PC do very weird things.

That's what I would think also. Metro 2033 is a pretty demanding game and draws a lot of power with all the eye candy turned on. Looks like either the power supply can't cope with power demands or it's overheating. Maybe dust it off?

What video card do you have?
Also, what specific power supply do you have? This will help me determine if its rated 600 watts or 600 wats.

Ew, HEC Power supply. Those are complete and total Junk. I bought one once. A "485" watt unit. Worked fine for the junk computer it was in. Except it caused massive electrical interference on speakers on the same outlet. When I tore it apart to review it, it really wasn't a 485 watt unit at all. I don't remember specifics, but I want to say the rectifying bridge was only good for like 300 watts, max. And the worst part was there was zero filtering. As in, no capacitors, no ferrite coils, no MOV. Nothing. I was apalled, I threw it in the bin. I would never recommend another HEC power supply after that.

Edit: Ah, here we are. This is the full review I did of it, pics included. Lol man that was such a terribly made power supply.

Get one of these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

Yep or this one. I'm a big fan of XFX power supplies (Made by Seasonic) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207014

The Corsair units are nice as well, which are what I use primarily.

Yeah, but that one is more expensive, and its not modular to make up for it. Its the same price as the modular Seasonic M12II. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151106
Also, I prefer the multi-rail of the S12II Seasonic. Safer.

Corsair is also good. The TX650 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139020 or HX650 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012 are what I would go with.
The HX650 is more expensive, but is modular and 80 Plus Gold instead of Bronze of the others posted. So it would save a little bit more energy.

I never understood the "Safer" part of the multi rail. As long as the power supply is well designed, and built with high quality stuff, there should never be a problem with a single large rail. That also makes it a lot easier when wiring, you don't have to try to figure out which lines go to what rail.

You will understand when you find out you can arc weld with a 70A 12V rail.
If its not designed stupid and you are not trying to get every watt out of it, it shouldnt matter what goes where. My 900W Cooler Master UCP has 4 rails and I just grabbed the first connector that would fit what needed plugging in.
