Held together good but terrible spacing and the paper was pretty brittle. I checked it over good though, nothing had ripped until I started pulling on it after the pictures. Nitrile was nice and pliable.

Isn’t this just a rebadged ProSelect?
I'm not sure, I'll bet someone on here would know though!

Yes, it's a rebadged Proselect cheap Wix (old Pro-Tec too). The bypass, coil spring, and baseplate give it away as a Wix. The ADBV is the same style, too.

What is the date code on the filter?

Wix is consolidating most Wixes to the Purolator design after being part of Mann, like Purolator is.

Napa has also started using Premium Guards as their cheap filter (now called Proformer)

The filter date is 03/16/22

I just bought a couple to try for the heck of it because they were $2.38 + tax at Rock Auto, and I was already buying some brakes and rotors so it didn't raise my shipping 👍🏻

I have the 2nd one on now but I won't be buying any more. The media is a bit questionable in my opinion.

Interesting how 1/2 of the pleats on the circumference maintained good spacing and shape and 1/2 got very widened spacing and wavy.

What causes filter pleats to get wavy and widened? The baseplate holes are equally spaced and are the same size so one would think each pleat is getting hit with oil the exact same way.

I would guess just less media so it basically is just not enough to bunch up around the entire circumference.... and the waviness from thinner material in this case.... but something like Fram Ultra this early waviness that I have been noticing would be from the very soft material IMO.

The spacing is set when the filter is made and the media is glued into the end caps. The manufacturing process is what determines how even the pleats are glued into the end caps. In this specific filter, it looks like the pleats that had wider spacing are the ones that have the most waviness to them. And as we see in this forum, pleats that tear from the oil flow dP are typically the pleats that have very wide spacing.

Nice. What oil and filter went in and on?

If you’re into $2 filters, I’ve seen more impressive models of the MIC ones at Rural King. They’ve generally had enough media so pleat spacing is pretty even except maybe the last two on either side of the seam.

Not knocking this as a last minute purchase, but there’s no way I’d be filling up my maintenance shelf with these.

I agree, I won't be purchasing any more. It was just a curiosity.

Chris or SubieRubyRoo is right. I’ve got a prime guard 2222 on a older compass girlfriend and I got as spare driver. No issues at all and it has QSUP 5w40; oh the horror 😱😱😱

Just please don’t ever use these new garbage “ProTec by Wix” filters. Already cut one open that tore
