Yeah. When I was servicing the O2 sensors on my Suburban at 106,000 miles, I found one of the wires leading to the forward driver's side sensor was just about rubbed through by the front driveshaft. Sooner or later, that would have worn completely through and triggered a light.
The way I see it, 99% of the time, a code isn't the sensor going bad. It means look there. The Kia wasn't running poorly and the first sensor swap cleared the P0016 code. That's why I jumped in and automatically swapped the second sensor on the other side.
I don't repair cars professionally so if it isn't an obvious mechanical issue, it may take me two steps to get through it instead of one.
