Sometimes its a little slow at work.
I have quite the extensive MPG spreadsheet for my car. When using fuel additives such as FP60 or Lucas UCL, I would take the number of ounces added, divide by 128, and use that figure to add to the gallons of gas used in order to account for the additive when calculating MPG.
I decided I wanted to track the actual concentration of additive being used. If a previous tank didn't have any additive in it, its easy, just divide by the fuel tank capacity. I use ~3oz of UCL for a 15.5g tank, which is roughly 1:600 ratio. Now when I fill up and it takes 12-14 gallons of gas, I add 2.25-2.75oz of UCL. This should get me close to the 1:600 ratio in theory.
That's not good enough. I want to track any changes that the treatment ratio may cause. So I have to account for the previous tank's ratio in the remaining 1-3 gallons of gas or so.
I set it up in Excel so that I only have to enter in the amount of additive used (in ounces) when filling up my tank. Then, through the use of many colums of calculations, it takes the amount of additive from the previous tank that is left over, based on that previous tank's concentration and adds it to the additive just put in and spits it out in a ratio to give me the actual concentration of additive in the tank currently.
All automated formulas.
