I have a Fumoto Valve on my Corolla and I have been thinking about taking it off and putting the factory drain plug back in because it is magnetic. What do you guys think? The Fumoto is convenient and doesn't leak, but I wonder if I am losing out because I don't have a magnet there attracting shavings.

Thoughts?

Magnets can give you a quick visual indication of abnormal wear. As a practical matter any ferrous materials large enough to be stuck to the magnet will be captured by a good FF oil filter.

not if they settle to the bottom of the pan, and never get sucked up the pick up tube! Either way, the only benefit of the magnet in my opinion, is you can see the metal. otherwise it will go out in to the drain pan, or get stuck in the filter.

I was looking at the RA-300 with 150 lbs of force, but I found it for about half that on Ebay a few moments ago, so all is good.

I don't go in for magnets. I figure all that stuff the filtermag picks up probably would get picked up by the filter media anyway. I really like the Fumoto on my motorhome. Pickup and Aerostar van have Fram Sure Drains, which are nice, but for the slow flow.

The magnet is a good idea in a manual tranny as they don't get changed very often.
