I was at the Chevrolet/Cadillac/Saab dealership this afternoon, when my friend took his Tahoe in for an oil change. As I was waiting on him, I decided to take a look at the used car showroom and noticed a black DTS outside.

I know the car is front wheel drive, which I'm frankly not a fan of, but the styling appeals to me and I couldn't resist not checking it out. It was a 2006 with 42,000 km (26,250 miles) on it and had a sticker price of the equalivant of $12,770 (they have terrible resale value here).

The salesman insisted on a test drive, even though I mentioned not being serious, but ended up giving in. I loved how smooth the ride was, and didn't push it or anything, but I think if this was a rear wheel drive, I would have had a hard time not buying it - especially with the price further lowered to ~$11,670.

This is another out of production model, and I was reading up when I came home about the XTS, which is supposedly the replacement. With other comparable vehicles from marques like Mercedes-Benz, BMW, Lexus and Infiniti being rear wheel drive, it makes me wonder why their replacement is another front wheel drive.

My in-laws have a 1999 Deville with the North Star engine and it has been problem free with 110,000 miles on it. There were some issues with that engine when it first came out (I think head gasket issues), but this one is really good.

When I was in the market for a used car a year ago, I was quite tempted to buy a DeVille, the first production car to have LED taillights IIRC. You could pick up a clean 2004 for under $5,500 easily.
