Fuel Power for diesels?

I'm still researching additives for diesels, and what I should use for a TDI. Fuel power perplexes me, because I thought that whatever boosts octane, will drop cetane, since they are theoretically opposite. So how does FP manage to handle both gas and diesel truly and not in a bs way like other additives I have seen?

I do a lot of stop and go/ short trips, and there is no smoke visible, just at startup on a cold day I see a little. Maybe its from the rocketchip, or maybe its a good engine. How much can Fuel Power improve on this?

Also, for the winter, to prevent gelling, perhaps Powerservice or whatever else additive would be better?

I have heard Terry's opinion already, but now I would like to hear other's opinions/experiences expecially Molakule.

Because FP does not boost octane.
 
Jason said it, FP does not boost octane and has never claimed to. FP works great with diesels fuels.

As Jason and others have stated, it is not an octane booster and consequently it does not affect cetane.

It does clean the fuel system and increases energy content of the resulting fuel mix. It also allows the flame front in the combustion chamber to spread and burn more evenly.
 
I will not address the cetane issue but I have posted recent ( 8/7/03) ASTM test data here on BITOG, run on pump #2 diesel using FP and how it positively affected that #2 fuel down to -20 F freeze point.

D86 Volatility and D 2386 Freeze point testing was done on Diesel fuel using FP and LC.

Both Fuel Power and LC surpassed the test specifications as opposed to the virgin #2 diesel.

Nitro, stick with what I told you unless YOU want to begin testing !

There is no need to run LC as a fuel add nor was it designed for that. A once time initial treatment is good for a really dirty diesel but not needed or recommended after that.

Can't help on the marketing issues, the stuff is a real good value and works like it says.

Spend some time reading about the volatility values with FP vs raw #2 diesel, quite a cleanliness difference.

At just 1 ounce to 5 gallons.

I have been running FP for a month and a half now in my F350. I have not seen an increase in performance or fuel economy but I will hopefully see a decrease in insolubles when I send in my next oil sample.

I will post those results when I get em. Unfortunately that will be a while.
 
Wow, so the ratio of 1 oz to 5 gals supresses the freeze point a lot? I was assuming that it takes more of the additive to drop the freeze point. By the way, is the gel point directly related to the freeze point? Because gelling happens way earlier than freezing, and thats what stalls the car, hehe.

Also, at such a low ratio of dosage I keep thinking that Lube Control would be better, since its thicker, and more 'powerful' (heck, it dissolves crud!). Terry, you told me that its a bit too strong to keep using, but maybe a 50/50 mix of lc and fp would be much more effective?

It's interesting how instead of using a BS fix like octane or cetane boosting, FP actually makes the mixture less volatile and burn more evenly. I'd rather have that, since its more "useable" than some bench test number.

I'll check out the site, but their diesel info is weak.

I don't get how a measely 1 oz to 5 gals, which works out to 1 oz/ 640 oz can change the energy content of the fuel so much that it increases the mpg. I know that as little as 1 percent Biodiesel in petrodiesel can increase lubricity by a bunch, but 1/640 = 0.16% and a double dose, 1/320 = 0.31%... way less than a percent!

I do get how the more efficient burning can help though.
