2012 Nissan Pathfinder VQ40DE V6 with 8,000 miles new to me I plan on doing a fair amount of towing this summer and I plan to run either M1 or Shell Full synthetic 5w30 on a continuous basis in this truck. I have a full case of Formula Shell conventional 5w30 sitting on the shelf should I use it up doing short OCI in the Pathfinder or just use it in something ells? I guess I am worried about the Shell conventional oil in the VQ40DE V6 under hard towing in summer heat I hear this engine is hard on oil? Is a cheep conventional oil ok for hard use for say 3,500-4,000 miles max?

There is no reason to worry at all.
Find my FS 5W20 used oil analysis on my F150 that was used in the summer here off roading, short trips, and towing with over 7K miles at it looked fine.

The VQ engines are known to be a little rougher on oil than your Ford engine with regards to shearing and TBN but that being said the formula shell should be fine for the severe service 3750-4000.

4,986 fully loaded weighed on a truck scale last year. Have weight distribution hitch and sway control. Truck is rated for 6,000 lbs towing but I think that's pushing it. Has a large trans cooler standard so at leased I don't have to add that like my Toyota 4Runner... (Old truck)

The more I think about it I will run the Shell 5w30 conventional for 3,500-4,000 this summer. There is a guy on here who I was just reading about who has or had a Nissan Frontier with the same V6 who ran the FS 5w30 much longer and beat the heck out of his truck and his oil sample looked quite good so my OCI should be a cake walk.

Personally, I'd consider Formula Shell a premium offering, albeit a bit of a sleeper. It will serve you well for your intended usage pattern.

FS synthetic is what I mostly ran in my Toyota 4Runner V6 and put nearly 200k on it before trade in. At 150k I had a valve cover off to fix a valve cover gasket and the motor was extremely clean. I am sure there are better oils out there but for the price FS in either synthetic and conventional seems to work quite well.
