ok so today my front brakes started squeaking on the 93 f-150 and the fluid is down some so its safe to say the front pads need replacing. question is does fords rotors slide right off or is the axle nut in the way like on chevys? i may not turn the rotors just depends. i know you supposed to but ehhh o well. what is the difference between the "standard" brake pads and the brake best at oreillys?

With 2WD Fords you have to take off the hub nut to remove the rotor. I wouldn't bother with getting them turned, they will be more likely to warp and you will be taking them off again. If they are good, reuse, if not get new rotors.

just because fluid is low and brakes are squealing does not automatically mean that the pads are worn out.
low fluid may indicate that the pads are worn so it's possible that you may need pads.
but squealing brakes.. i had brakes squeal when new, midlife, and worn out.

You'll have to remove the axle nut. Its a great time to pack/inspect the wheel bearings. I second the vote to just replace them. I've had no luck turning them on my 88.

Go to Autozone and get the Duralast Gold brake pads. As long as you don't let them wear down to the metal you get a lifetime warrenty. I change mine out every 8000 miles and Autozone gives me a free set no questions asked.

oreillys does that too. but they aren't supposed to. if you read the warranty closely it doesn't mean because they wore out. i dont ever do that because if the pads are good i want to buy new ones to keep the company in business. i dont expect free pads for life .

Are you being serious? Wouldn't they still be basically brand new at 8k miles?

I once had a 93 Escort that wore out front pads every 20K miles, but 8K is a new one on me. I used to buy good pads (Raybestos QuietStop - ceramic) for my 89 Accord. They would last about 90-100K miles.

A friend of mine had a new very racy Ford stolen just after they serviced it and the thief then used it as a getaway car for a series of smash and grad raids. The Police chased it a few times but only recovered it when the villans dumped it as it was in the papers etc. The front disc pads were worn away in less than 2000 miles from new, so it sure is possible with a big right boot.
You can't tell pad wear from brake fluid level, if it drops it's more likely a leak than the pads. Visit a quick fit place and take a look see.

RockAuto is showing $43 for the Motorcraft BR41B front pads. Depending on his/her mood, they might be higher or lower at the dealer. EDIT: BDCardinal shows them higher.

Yeah I wouldnt read anything into the fluid drop.

Have you measured the pads and rotors yet?

Set the axle nut with a dial gauge if you can to be the most exact.

I picked up my final set of Raybestos ceramic pads for $20 on clearance from Rock Auto. They were $60 when I bought them at Pep Boys.
