Fresno County Sues Scotch Tape Company

If 3M stated their tolerance as 1.00" +/- .05" in their ISO9001, then they'd be manufacturing to the highest standard, wouldn't they?

Is there an industry standard for tape manufacturing tolerances? does there need to be?

It's all just a big misunderstanding. You see it's "Scotch" tape, they manufactured it to a "Scotch inch", that's just a wee bit smaller than an Imperial inch laddy boy....

(No offence ment to our Scottish friends.)

Check if there's a blue ribbon involved....

(not a Scotsman but I do wear a kilt now and then)

Mini-kilts for really stingy Scots? Then again, red diaper thingies with bandoliers appear to be another clothing option...

Is that a Webley?

actually the dimensions of a 2x4 are about 1 1/2 x 3 1/2

2x4 is a nominal measurement. a 2x4 can be anywhere from 1 1/2x3 1/2 up to a 'true' 2x4 (but usually the largest is 1 3/4x 3 3/4). wood expands and contracts a huge amount. there is NO WAY a lumberyard can turn out exact 2" x 4" pieces of lumber. what is more important is to get pieces straight and true, which is hard when you get HD stuff. I buy my lumber now from a real lumberyard; they've been stocking Czech stuff lately that is pretty good.
