U of I had a population higher than the county where I grew up.

I chose a smaller, private school where, from time to time, we see presidential debates.

Pay very close attention to those who would cut off unpleasant, common sense discussions and this has been both. If they had the power they would make certain that your opinions were outlawed unless they agreed with their own. They provide a valuable service. Those like them are seeking laws to make it a crime to have a policy disagreement on climate change for instance, to make any speech that might seem a micro-aggression to some demented child punishable by law and are more than happy to have the state dictate to the individual in matters as irrelevant (to them) as what to teach our children, what you do within your religion (if you have the temerity to have one) and how you should get your own family's healthcare.

As I said, these people are valuable to us. Pay attention. It was either the OP or the Mod who said this is not left or right and, in my eyes, that is correct. We are a nation of laws with a foundation of law. Pay attention if you want it kept that way as they scream at you to cut off discussion or failing that, run to a higher authority to get them to do it for them. Lock this thread indeed.

Sit down and look around you. We the tax payer are paying and paid for everything.

So let us not argue about who is paying for it. We are!

Now keep looking, you should be able to see some really smart individuals, some community college rejects, some blue collar workers, some ex-cons working construction. Each member of our society makes an important contribution.

Now, using your ten fingers count how much WE the people pay in taxes, and what % of that would it take enable a fellow citizen to get a college education.

It is not like we are saving the money and getting it back from the feds. We are [censored] it away.

At last ask yourself why you hate the idea of helping another person. Remember, the ones need it most never ask for it.

We are more than happy to help big business...
