Aaarrrrggggghhhh

FIL rings the boss (real boss) last Friday and tells her that he's trading in the 2004 Accord (110,000km), because he can't trust it anymore.

While driving to the cemetary that his wife's buried 160km round trip, 3 times a week), the fuel pump died. Stopped the car, restarted, and got another 20km. Called roadside assist, they hammered the pump into submission to get it mobile again.

Drove straight to Bathurst, and "negotiated" himself a new Civic.

They (not knowing the fuel pump, as it was running) offered him $11k trade-in, but refused to budge on the retail price, but did throw in mudflaps...didn't have the colour that he wanted in stock, so he took another off the lot.

$25 grand changeover

Frigging annoying...I got him $5k off sticker 5 years ago on the Accord, he gets himself taken to the cleaners on trade-in, then is happy that he got free mudflaps...even says that he was expecting more on the trade-in... I should say so.

Then yells over the phone at my better half because the insurance company didn't want to cover the car for the purchase price, them arguing that no-one pays that much for the car.

ouch. sorry to hear that. that sucks! water under the bridge now. is it being financed? you'll be upside down on the insurance for sure, and esp if it was financed. sounds like an impulse buy.

LOL crinkles, based on my weekend/ebay experience, shi bucketloads.

He's an impulse guy.

He quit smoking because the cigarette company that supplied him what 1 customer wanted 1 pack per week played up on him, and quitting their product was his vengence.

Cancelled an order for some water tanks because the store rang him to tell him that they should have charged a 10% deposit on order placement, but forgot.

It's cash, so it's not so bad.

I guess if you go to a stealership demanding a new car--any new car--"right now!" You don't have a lot of wiggle room in the deal.

My work used to have an impulsive guy like this. Before my time but the stories linger. He wrecked his real car then cancelled his insurance right before they got him a rental, b/c he didn't like the rental, and it would "show them".

From the thread title, I thought you were gving away mudflaps!
Now that's cleared up I'm still wondering which Civic costs 36k?
Tempers and principle cost people alot of money.

We have a few people like this in my extended family. Don't do the front-end loading on anything, then wonder why life is so hard and they are always deep in sushi. I keep looking for teachable moments, but sometimes they are hard to find.

I don't think that this is in US dollars.

36K?? That's just a rip-off. You could almost buy one over here and ship it to you and STILL save money for that price!!
