FRAM XG7317 Cut Open

This filter was on a 2011 Honda CR-Z for four months and 4,000 miles including about 200 miles of HPDE track sessions. It was removed in order to install a thermostatic sandwich plate for an oil cooler and I didn't want to risk a gasket leak after reinstalling it.

I've pretty much quit cutting open wire-backed syn media filters like XG, RP, etc. I have yet to find even the slightest defect. Its just a whole different assembly process thats much less prone to failure than traditional filters, IMO.

Thanks for the cut and post, that's the same filter I run on my Nissan.

Also if you want to see what they look like loaded see my pictures of an XG3980 with 13k short trip miles.

I know it wasn't fully loaded because the used oil analysis showed normal insolubles but the inside of the can was holding a lot of contamination a it should. There's no internal bypass because it's a GM application, so the debris just sits there

dont quit cutting open filters if everyone stops cutting filters the filter companies will slack off...lol

Now if only all frams filters could look this good or even half as good that would be something to write about..

That filter looks like you cut open a brand new one and dipped it in some used motor oil. Just what I would expect to see from a Fram Ultra.
