Do they cover the filter base really well when they paint the grippy stuff on and what is in the grippy stuff, sand? Nothing like grit in the oil filter assembly line.

Yeah, they must spray on the rough coating then spray sand all over it while it's still wet in the same area where raw parts are being assembled.

Do you have the room for something like this? I almost always use one of these unless it's a rare situation where it won't fit. They adjust to the size of your filter rather than needing to use a regular single sized cap wrench.
