And? The same thing is said about Toyota filters and Toyotas run 400,000 miles with filters that favor flow over filtration.

How does anyone really know what those OEM filters flow without seeing any actual measured flow vs delta-p data?

Just because the efficiency is low doesn't automatically mean they flow well. Just like on the flip side that assuming a high efficiency filter is automatically restrictive to flow has been shown to be a misconception.

With a Fram Ultra??

Sorry been super busy at work so I'm a little behind. No this was before Fram Ultra's time.
It was a Orange Can basic Fram because I didn't know better then, but I did also try the Tough Guard at the time as well and it was no better.

Our receptionist drives a relatively new Nissan Sentra and I heard what sounded like lifters ticking and I suggested she might be low on oil. I offered to check it for her and it was full and cleanish. She said she would return to the dealer where she gets her oil changed regularly for an inspection because I told her that noise wasn't normal. I couldn't see what filter it was so I'm not sure if this is an engine problem or caused by a poor quality filter. Just thought I would mention it here.

The one caveat with the plan if applicable, could/would be that ever present Hyun/Kia E/P warranty. As long you have no issue ie., no concern about not following H/K's OM recommendation for changing the OF each time, then the FU should be up to the task as described. Granted risk small, but as you assume it, should be noted as a consideration imo.

One filter one OCI is what I go by regardless of filter. Filters are cheap, engines aren't so change every time is a good policy to go by. I'd go with the Ultra, majority of import OEM filters have poor efficiency is why I steer clear, especially Toyota and Honda filters.
