Unscientific and not cut open.

There’s only a little fraying on the outer edges. Two runs of Castrol Edge at 9k each in a 2009 Lexus ES350.

Looks good at 18k miles. You got money's worth for sure. Personally, never as enamored with the OG XG cartridges as the spin on type. Some applications especially for BMW, the media separated from the endcaps. Fit in housing an important factor in cartridge use. Seemingly, Toyota perhaps more tolerance than BMW application. Fwiw, if I was looking aftermarket for Toyota cartridge application now, the Super Tech ST9972 ~$3 would be 'my' first look now.

Perhaps you could elaborate replacement "ProTec (China made, Wix not MannHummel)" from RA. Are you saying the Protec cartridges made before M&H purchase of Wix? Or same cartridge design as an OG Wix cartridge, even since M&H purchase?

From my experience when I pulled the cartridge from the oil lid/cap the flat disc end just do not hold very well after a run and end up pulling the endcap away from the media. Especially, longer runs that may be happening like did & some Euro applications. I was shocked at first b/c I thought that it happened in service but then realized I'd probably done it when removing it. Just a thought. Well, I just heard Fed ex deliver that X4 so off I go to send off that VOA! ;)

On the case it shipped in it says

ProTec
Made in China

A Wix Product
Except when made in Mexico
Then a product of MannHummel

Ok. So it's saying the coo determines in who credited with manufacture. That even though M&H owns both. As long as you're satisfied, all that matters. Was just trying to understand the distinction.

Oh, they changed them? Dang
Yep, Fram was sold. Then the cheapening started. Unfortunate b/c Fram did so well for many years trying to shake off their old image with the TG & XG lines.

Unless this new "Protec" is some sort of odd Chinese brand, what you say makes sense. LOL

Has anyone ran an Extra Guard for 10k recently? I did 10k last year on a Toyota and the filter still looked great as well. Wondering if that was the “cheapened” one or before the change.
