Any one use these? We just got a 05 Ford Explorer for my wife this week and its the first vehicle I've ever owned that Fram made a Tough Guard filter for. I was tempted to try one, but was worried about the oil in the filter holding up. I've seen K&N's before that weren't all that dirty, were sorta dry looking and I was afraid of this happening to the Tough Guard after awhile and its affect on the filters ability to filter out all the dirt/dust. I usually keep my filters in for atleast 30,000miles and wasn't sure if these filters relied on the oil to do most of the filtering. Anyways, I got an Extra Guard for it this time around, but if its still running by then, I might try one of these.

Fram is probably fine for your use. If you had a turbo diesel engine, it would be the LAST filter you would want, as the turbo would suck the filter into little bits and swallow them with MAJOR repercussions!
I've never had problems with the regular frams before. Is that just a product of them not flowing enough air?
I have a fram Tough Guard air filter in my truck and I had no problems with it so far
I ran one in the Jeep for about 20k. It definitely dirtied up a little faster than other filters, and even though my filter gets pretty damp when driving in heavy rain, it still seemed just as oily when I replaced it as it did when I first installed it.
I really like the Fram Tough Guard air filters but it seems as though nobody carries them anymore. Just went to Advance Auto and they said they can order them, but when they tried it came up blank and they said they can't get them. Did Fram discontinue them?

Thanks Lakersguy. My wife took me out with her to do Christmas shopping today. Normally I don't like going to Walmart, but today when she suggested Walmart I was happy to go. Now I have a two year stock of Tough Guard air filters.
How often do you change engine air filter, every year ? I normally change air filter every 2-3 years or 30-40k miles.

Yeah man, they are fine. I use them all the time and just change them out twice a year because I live in a dusty environment.

The Fram air filter line is rather decent, i use the extra guard filter on my vehicles if i am using a walmart gift card (i can get purolator for the same price at advance) or have to use walmart.
