Hello and this tough guard 3614 was on my 2011 Ficus SE with the Duratech 2.0. Had Castrol EDGE 5w20 in it. Not real bad but pleats near seams look horrible is all I will say. Enjoy the photos and I put Valvoline Durablend 5w30 and a ULTRA 3614 on and in. Also, ADBV was very pliable and soft as were the end caps. I think it did its job for being on for half the winter with lots of frigid days and being outdoors a LOT.

Looks like it held up, but media resembling that shown in the photos is why I am using wire backed media more and more these days.

Thanks for the C&P!

I think you are talking about a Extra Guard, Driveworks or Pronto or Parts Plus. This filter has a silicon ADBV and blended media.

I use them on my nissan. When I cut them apart they always look perfect. That one is actually fine. pleats moved around is not going to matter at all.

I'm just not a fan of the TG-when CQ Blues can be bought from AAP, with a code, for the same (or slightly LESS) money, I just don't see the value, at all. Even the CQ Reds (posted by car51, mostly, thanks) tend to look better than the TG. This filter was running one of the best syn oils around, in a thin viscosity, for a recommended OCI, and couldn't handle it. What would one look like after running a conventional oil or (God forbid) 15W40 HDEO in winter??

Yeah, I ran the oil and filter 900 miles over. The OCI as pet owners manual is 7,500. Think I'll use up my ULTRA's then go with Baldwin since I can get them cheap. My Motorcrafts are scrap metal now as I was NOT risking those garbage things on my engine

Personally, for similar price I like Wix better than Fram Tough Guard. But for extended FCI of 10-12k miles or longer Fram Ultra is the one to go to.

Thanks for the pictures master car51!

I had a TG3980 and an XG3980 when I changed my oil and filter yesterday, and I put the XG3980 on. I may even walk on the wild side, and leave it on for two 6,000 mile OCIs because taking a filter off a GM 3.1 makes a mess, and I know an Ultra can hang in there for a long time.

Looks like cold winter starts played a factor here. Run one in the summer of you get a chance.

Ugly but it did its job. Thanks for the c and p.

DLundblad: I may just switch to Baldwins since they are a lot cheaper. Plus, reading the cut open filters section they are built like tanks!

Baldwins are built strong, I just wish they had a silicone ADBV instead of nitrile-but at least their nitrile ones seem to hold up pretty well. Where do you buy them? Zoro is my usual source, but I usually wait for a sale-or they're almost as much as an Ultra.
