If a Purolator had pleats that spaced apart, the media would have most likely torn. Grit on the dirty side of the media is good ... means it's doing it's job, and also means the motor is dirty.

Missing about 8-10 pleats to pass my test. No excuse. They pleating is perfect on the flip side.

Exactly. There's no excuse for Puro's media to tear even with the terrible pleating. This indicates a media quality issue. Fram's media doesn't have this problem.
