Filter - newish Fram Ultra XG7317. Looks okay to me. No Carbon in bottoms.

Came off 1995 PowerTech 17.5kw gen with Kubota V2203 and 13,748 hrs.

Oil was Rotella T4 15w-40 w/226 hrs in 13 mths.

When back w/same oil and an older XG3593A w/ss screen backing.

Looks good, thank you for pics and post

Thanks for the C&P!

Do new XG's not have wire backing?
About 1 yr ago Fram stopped putting the ss backing screen in all the new XG/Ultras. They introduced the "Titanium" series that DOES come with the ss screen, available at Advance Auto Parts only.
I got lucky and came across some new old stock with the XG3593A.

That filter cutter is pure O face, curled toes and all… 😲

The Titanium has been out at least 2+ years now. A few reports have said that Titaniums have been seen without the wire backed media also. AAP will probably go with the non-wire backed media too if it's going to make them more profits.

Same steel center tube with holes.
At least they didn't go e-core with that center tube 😁

If you recall, years ago I had a couple e-core blowouts.

Shame, the wire backed media was a big selling point for me. That or a see through can that allows me to inspect the quality of the pleating before buying ;)

I keep 5 different pt# Fram Ultras on my shelf for our various vehicles. The newer XG/Ultra have a nylon screen. I do have one XG16 w/ss screen left.
I have several Fram FS/Titanium filters for the future.

All 3 Fram FS/Titanium pt#s I have on the shelf state on the box they are in that they have the ss screen.
Need to do a visual on the center tube holes to verify the metal screen is there. When Fram started making Ultras without the wire backed media, some of the boxes still said it had the screen, but the filters in the boxes didn't have the screen.

That seems to be a small filter for the application. Interesting.

Dads tractor with the same engine takes the xx16 size.

No need for something that big - - these engines have pretty small oil pumps

The 3-cyl Cummins 1.8L in my tractor uses a Fram XG3593A and it's plenty big for that engine by far.
