Fram PH6607 cut open

I’ve volunteered a Fram PH6607 for science to see if a black silicone ADBV is being used. I think I’ll defer my future filter post-mortems to @53' Stude(I have a box of filters to send to him). I used a Milwaukee oscillating multi-tool to hack away at it. Enjoy.

It doesn’t have that rubbery smell of nitrile but doesn’t feel like silicone(like a set bead of RTV or silicone caulk, a silicone spatula/scraper or a mouthpiece for a snorkel or scuba regulator) - it oddly feels like a Silpat baking mat.

Fram wants you to be able to see a full side view of their media... Since someone went through all that effort to cut it open, they're just doing you a favor and making it easier.

That's old school PH16 levels of bad! Filter's not big enough to have that spacing.

Having used orange cans intermittently (but with confidence) for decades, recent cut and posts have been disappointing.

I have a stash of old stock PH3600s I bought on clearance that I will use, but not sure I will buy any more.

The burn test should distinguish nitrile from silicone pretty easily. Just use a match ... outside of course.
