Amazon has them for $3.88, good buy or what? Regardless of the silicone or nitrile ADBV situation.

Last two OCI used these. Last one was with nitrile, but based on what were seeing the newer ones built after begining of this year have silicone again. Amazon tends to have new stock and high turnover in my experience. I only run for 5k anyway. The grippy material is very nice.

If there's an orange can hater at the dealer then it won't make a difference if it's the same size or not. The Toyota oil filters are about $5, sometimes $3. Check pricing near your dealers and the filter size online at https://parts.toyota.com/
I used to be a stickler on oe filters watching these YouTube filter autopsies oe isn’t anything special.

Look on rockauto for options... the $1.66 champ isn't too bad when you buy a dozen. Ship to your work to save on shipping fees, or combine with another order from the same warehouse.

Fram is consolidating all 4386/4967 to the smaller 4967 can. They are already doing it on the Champ side for quick lubes.
To clarify, you're stating that FB/Fram will no longer sell the 4386 application in all tiers (EG,TG, Ultra)? "IF" so, bad move. Be analogous to only selling the shorty 6607 where 7317 is spec. Fyi, many quick lubes have long consolidated to shorty 6607 in place of 7317. (not as familiar with 4967/4386, but imagine it's been same) However, that's not the same as not offering the spec size filter in retail off the shelf sale.

Have a citing/source for info, or is it an observation of product offerings at Walmart, or elsewhere?

They are also dumping the 3593a for the 9688 too

For now, the bigger filters are available. If you want them, stock up.

Warranty doesn't pick or pay for my filters. Under warranty on 2 cars in the driveway and neither have an OE filter. But, I am not so stupid to visit the dealer for a engine failure warranty repair with a non-OE filter or lack of the proof of maintenance. Sis-in-law blew an engine(typical theta2 rod knock and fail safe mode)... Told her to bring it by and swapped the quicklube filter for OE and topped off the oil... drove it knocking to dealer and exercised the class action on a 10.5 year old vehicle on 2nd owner for free engine replacement. Stuff ain't rocket science but most aren't rocket scientists.

Doesn't say its going away:

That one doesn't surprise me. Fram was 'perhaps' the only filter manufacturer left that made a distinction between the two applications. Others have long combined the two applications into one. Slight size difference and insignificant bypass difference (3593a bypass psi within the 9688 bypass psi range). So really, Fram just joining many other filter makers now.

However, IF they are doing away with the longer 4386 and selling the shorty 4967 only, I would be surprised. But, with First Brands calling the shots I suppose anything possible. Time will tell.
