This is off a 2018 Toyota Camry with the 2.5l direct and port injected motor. Filter was in use 6 months, 5k miles.
This is my first filter cut open. The only big complaint I have is the ADBV being nitrile, I can see how it would be less effective than silicone. By the way, the nitrile adbv WAS working though, decent amount drained when I cracked it off. This filter went through a very hot summer in LA. For 5kish runs, I wouldn't worry about the silicone.
All the talk of "cardboard" with this filter is nonsense. I was surprised to find the media is very stiff and hard. It's strong material and has a metal crimp. Sure there are some pleat gaps but they gotta try and upsell the tough guard. The baseplate for these is pretty thick although the can is thin. The weak spot for these filters is the middle, I'd avoid grabbing from there. I have to say I love the "sure grip," I'll keep buying these over OEM for 4 bucks. Enjoy.

Used Castrol EP 5w20 out and in, used another ph4967 (nitrile). Filter looks really good, I would have no issue using this 10k in this motor (especially with silicone), however the oil wreaked of fuel. I believe in 5k with anything GDI. My gal does alot of city driving.

In case of filter failure, you just swap an OE filter that you keep on the shelf. You can use the larger filter if you want but requires a bit of sense prior to the tow to the dealer. Its not like engine failure is common with Toyota, especially with the OCI cut in half for severe service.

Fiber media endcaps work well for media support and sealing. The same clowns that call it cardboard use filters with cardboard media. They just aren't rocket scientists.

I get what you're saying, but the cars no longer under warranty so there would be no benefit in doing that. If the filter failed, I'd be using Fram's warranty. Another thing to consider is this filter mounts horizontally, and there is very little room to even install this size filter. Finally, I doubt there is any real benefit. Although this car was dealer maintained, the filter looked brand new after 5k. No carbon or dirt escaping like some sludged up engines. I'm continuing to change at 5k with my walmart pricing error oil (total cost: $3.88+0.20 gasket) This car runs great, especially after d&f on the transmission 5k ago.
