I just checked my airfilter tonight, Its a Purolator , made in China and I was horrified !!
I wonder if their oil filters are made there?
Its been about 10k and 1 yr but it looks like it can go another yr or 10k.. No to dirty at all.I'll check in 6 mos..
MANN Air Filters are awesome, However the FRAMs are Good to and might save $
Stay away from the Purolator Pureone Air Filters.. They put OIL in them and that can get your MAFS very dirty and cause bad gas milage and other problems.
Just get the regular.
MANN or FRAM , I think you will be fine.
Even Ultra-8 brand you can get from NAPA is nice and good price.

The Mann air filter I purchased for my GM 5.3L V8 was made in China and was poorly finished, with ragged gasketing. The NAPA, Delco, and Fram filters all looked much better.
The cold weather filter has a layer of foam glued to it. Provides extra filtration and if snow somehow makes it to the airbox, then the foam would keep it contacting the cellulose filter.

That is some serious Bovine Scatology there, David. The type of oil used in cellulose filters (called a tackifier) doesn't migrate at all. Plus there is a very small amount used (assuming the P1 even has it... I don't know that as a fact). It DOES increase efficiency when it's used in combination with the right media. Tackifier oils have been used in cellulose air filters since the earliest days
Most oils don't harm MAFs anyway, as they burn off cleanly. One aspect that I think has been missed is that large amounts of oil along with a lot of the right types of fines (the fine dirt that passes thru a relatively inefficient air filter) could harm the MAF because the oil would causes the silica in the dirt to stick onto the wire before it burns off ... but that is some educated speculation on my part. I'm not sure it's been thoroughly investigated.
One oil that may not burn off is motor oil, which can back up the intake via the PCV system. The breather for the crankcase vent is often in the intake tract. In low vacuum situations with high crankcase pressure, more blowby gas (with an oil mist) could back up into the intake tract. If you read thru the K&N info on MAF contamination, they chemically analyzed the oil on some of the MAFs that they could verify that it was oil contamination that caused the failure and it turned out to be motor oil.

Neat idea. I think all panel filters should have a thin layer of foam about 1/2" on dirty side. Larger debris are catch by the foam and it can be easily cleaned.
