Good rainy evening folks. Filter off my 02’ Dakota 2wd truck with 3.9 V-6 engine. On with HPL CK-4 HDEO 5w30 oil. Oil kinda cleaner unless it was reflection. Wicking filter media now for long time. Couldn’t find date code either. Enjoy the photos.

I had some OG Ultras of that vintage, and the date code was missing on them too. That version had it etched on the side of the can, and it's hard to see, but the ones I had didn't have the date code ... I looked high and low with a good LED flashlight. Wasn't under the label either.

Isn't interesting how Premium Guard came out of left field to be the new MVP? I've been buying the MicroGard Select and Carquest Premium (to my knowledge, both Premium Guard made.)
I agree with you. Thanks to BrendanC ice stockpiled some wire backed Titanium 16’s

That leaf spring has what looks like a ball, or cone seal. I think it’s the best design.
Basically it's the same as any other Fram or Champ Labs leaf spring. On this OG Ultra, there's a fiber gasket embedded in the end cap where the leaf spring sits.

"Truly" an OG XG Ultra filter. That means not only two ply full synthetic wire backed media but also has the dome endcap gasket material bypass seal area. Unlike First Brands, Rank Group realized area best made and sealed with gasket material there. No cost cutting on that seal area. Literally seals the OG XG deal.

Thanks for c&p.

I think they are great to you.
Nope. I have not used, touched, or even seen one. On paper, they seem great. I´m seriously asking what makes them not great? Do they have a particular weakness or downside? I´m wondering because I am considering making it the primary filter for my Vette and my fiance´s Compass.

So you said it, now please ´splain it.

Yesterday after cutting filter open I wicked the media with 6 sheets Scott blue towels. Before end of last night towels were black. This morning I’m wicking media more.

It has a lot to do with just not a lot of good options more so than premium guard being great.
Please explain yourself. I can get wire backed titanium for $4 with work account, or CQ Premiums too. I Jane some “made in Korea 14670 FEDERATED filters too. May use my stockpile of titanium’s and ultra up.
