Fram Made Microgards now at O Reilly's

Before joining here, I used mostly Fram bought on sale. Have used Fram with good dino oil at 3K OCI for years. My father-in-law just had to do some work on a truck I sold him. Has 187K miles on it. He does not like castrol gtx which was what I mostly used and he was surprised how clean it was. The previous car was a mercury lynx. Mostly gulf oil and fram filters (mid 80's). I was late on changing the timing belt and it broke. Mechanic stated it was one of the cleanest cars he had ever seen.

I know fram is bashed here and I don't use them. The only reason I don't is that I now know there are just as good or better filters for less money but I do not think your car will explode if you use them even though they are hated here.

Well, theoretically the filter material is cellulose paper and if it can withstand 5,000 miles of use then a fiber endcap should last as long or longer with a quality glue. I'll give Fram the benefit of a doubt that they tested for failure. Even steel endcaps would need to be glued to prevent oil from seeping under the filter material. And even the worst Fram filter that I've looked at didn't have the endcaps separate. Steel endcaps look better for sure but I don't think it's definitive that they perform to a higher level. Now actual amount of filter media looks to be a strike against the orange Frams.

I don't use Fram because on my 302 with a Tough Guard, it sounds like the drum line in a marching band when you start it, and I can just about puncture the can with an unkempt fingernail.

The fact that the old Microgard was listed on the box as being made by Purolator, and the new supplier is conspicuously kept off the box, tells me that this anti-Fram sentiment has hit home to Microgard.

Most of the Fram oil filter discussion is centered around the media end caps and the price of the filter. I'd like to see a statement from Fram defending their case (end cap media, filter media, price, and performance), if indeed their oil filter is worth the price.

The degree of greed in the corporate business world is so bad now that eventually I don't think I'll be buying ANYTHING new anymore!!!!!

if Fram priced their filters = Purolator prices, I'd take the Fram anyday of the week.
I only use thee Pouros because they are a good filter and are less expensive than Fram
