+1 Most people who use FRAM filters dont go past 3-5k oil changes anyways so what's the big deal. Yeah it isn't up at the standards of the P1s etc but they are a servicable filter that will work just fne.

check out the recent post by MotorKing-an employee at Fram. The particle size they use for testing all filters is 10-20 mics. So they put > 20 mics to cover themselves legally.

What's interesting about Fram's use of the > 20um rather than the @ 20um or another level and covering "themselves legally" is others like Purolator and Wix could well do the same. If for example, Purolator used the >20um rather than @20um they could list and cover ALL their filters, the Classic with 97.5% and P1 with 99.9% and be legitimate and also be legal. Using the >??um method does give room for leeway in specing filters efficiencies, and include all filters of one type.

Also interesting, if one visits the Puro 'made for' Group7 and ProMotive(AAP) commercial filter websites, which look strangly very similar, ALL the oil filters are rated(using graph) at 94% >20um. That includes the smallest 4612, the Puro 14612 equivalent. Otoh, if Purolator also used the >20um they could list all Classics and P1 at >20um including the 4 smallest, and 'be legal'. Also, do I believe that the made for G7 and ProMotive, many consolidated, to be more efficient than Puro's own Classic, no.

So, covering one's self legally can be viewed from another perspective. Just something to consider.

Frams have a higher tendency of failing, that's just all.

I'm sure they have the cheapest oil filter in terms of cost of material. All it is made is cardboard and glue and a thinner can.

FRAM works, but just a lot of people with complaints about them.

Used Fram's OCOD for years. Thought they were better than Mototcraft filters at that time. My biggest beef is the anti drain back valves didn't work at all on my two Ford vehicles with horizontal mounting. With the 4.9 six in my 1989 F-150 the start-up noise was brutal and in the winter unbearable. Changed to a Motorcraft FL1A and all was quiet from then on, using the same grade oil. My 2.0 Zetec four was not as noisey but became totally quiet after switching to Motorcraft, Wix and Mobil One oil filters.

Whimsey

My Shelby Charger (also a horizontal mount) clattered on a cold start with a Fram filter. Running a NAPA, a Purolator, a ProLine, or even a Super Tech...no clatter.
