This is my first time opening a filter. The overall construction is very solid, but I did notice rust around the welded seam where the baseplate attaches to the housing. All 8 of the filters I purchased have this. I butchered this one quite bit while trying to expose the wire backed media, but it is there. My question is should I feel confident using the other 7 filters even with the rust?

That's a crimped seam, not welded. Strange that it's rusted and there's no other signs of rust anywhere else on or inside the filter. If you're worried about it, you could mask off the bottom of the filter and use a wire wheel or brush to clean that seam really well, then paint it really good to seal and prevent further rust. It would be some work, but might be worth doing since the rest of the filter looks good.

I would try what ZeeOSix mentioned. Thank You for cut and post.

I'd run them but not keep it on for longer than 1 year in a salted road area. I know these cans should be thicker than say a standard but not sure if that thickness carries over to that leading edge. Walmart should have some "Touch Up" automotive paint in gold color that would be a small price to pay for piece of mind. Thanks for cutting one of these!
