My next door neighbor's kid, actually he is 24 yrs old, but he will always be a 'kid' to me, works at a local WalMart TLE. After reading this thread, I gave him a call.

He said that the Fram PRO is simply the bulk, versus individual wrapped, Fram filters. They are sold to oil change places, like WalMart, packeged in cardboard boxes. He said they are the same inside and out, as the ones on the shelf. I assume that the filters are cheaper in price per unit that way.

The blue stuff? He said they call it 'torque seal', whatever that means. They use it as a tamper proof liquid seal around the drain plug, and he said some techs also mark the filter. I guess that is what is on the bottom of the filter.

I have no idea why anyone would run an oil filter for 25k, let alone an orange can. Well, really I do, but non would be benign, so no need to go there. But, it did hold together, if that's the measuring criteria.

It looks similar to the one widman posted here not long ago. And similar to others posted, though 25k may be the longest interval.

Just curious, did the owner change their oil in the filter interval, or just add?

Thanks for the pics.

Owner did not change nor add any oil that whole time. There was no makeup oil as she would never think to do that, I did tell her to check it and she always said it said it was full and she went 25K because she "never" had time to go get it changed or couldn't "afford" to get it changed. I do not live close to her, so I can't just stop by and change it. When I did it she left her car at my house when she took a business trip out of town so I changed it. Then sent it in to see if the engine was imploding because of her lack of care.

I knew a girl who went 60K miles before a change because she did not know that a car's oil NEEDED changing...

OMG,thats just insane!!

I wouldn't give too much credit to the filter. It had probably been in bypass mode for most of its life. no threat there.

Reminds me of the woman who came in one day with her 14 month old Suzuki and said: "Someone told me that their is oil in my car and it needs to be changed." After I confirmed that, she said to put something in it that doesn't need changing any more.

That is bad, my friend knew it needed to be changed just not one of her priorities and put it off over and over.

They are labeled as PRO because the frams for walmart TLE come in cases of 12. The filters are not individually boxed, so PRO is more like BULK. The blue stuff is tamper-seal. It is made in different colors, walmart uses blue. They use it to see if a drain plug or filter has been turned (i.e. tampered with).

I told her I could put synthetic in it, but that she should still change it each year, and any time she was near our place to please stop in and we will check it and the rest of her fluids without charge.
