Fram Endurance vs Purolator Boss oil filters

Do you think a slightly better filtering efficiency is really going to matter? And the quality of the BOSS is far superior. I'll easily get 250+k miles from my engine on this filter, so that's all I need to know. Go BOSS!
Knowing the official efficiency specs on the Boss, I wouldn't use it for any lengthy OCI (certainly not the upto 20K miles that Purolator touts) because it loses efficiency fast as it loads up ... it's a debris slougher as shown in Ascent's ISO efficiency testing. Sure the construction is good and it "looks good" in C&Ps, but looks aren't everything in the filter world. If the Boss was higher efficiency like the Endurance, Royal Purple or Ultra it would probably be one of the hot filters to use for those who care about efficiency.

10-4 … And we went through that with not just brands but certain models within the brand - hats off to the filter cutters without the snide remarks wrt beauty pageants …
I’m seeing the cartridges built better than the “can” …
Seems like a clue right there 😷
True. The cartridges have less parts and less to screw up.

The key is not to get emotionally attached to a brand. After 20+ years of running wix filters I had to let go. The quality was no longer there. Also realize YouTube is for entertainment purposes only.
couldn’t have said it better myself. i am a fram fan but i wont recommend anything other than an endurance due to how they’re manufacturing the ultra media now. purolator cant make a media that wont tear other than the BOSS with terrible filtration specifications. this is why i have 60+ OG wire backed Titanium’s in my house stored in climate controlled areas. i refuse to run anything current from M+H and Fram on my personal vehicles

I prepper stash them in ammo boxes. Leaves me worry free of them rusting.

Wire backed OG Ultras and Titaniums ... the new prepper's "gold for trade"' when society collapses. 😄
When spare engine parts no longer exist or become rare, you want your originals to last a very long time, prevention wins all the time.

Mad Max needs that Pursuit Special, also referred to as the "Last of the V8 Interceptors", to be in top running condition. :D

Endurance all day for efficiency. Most of the BOSS line is 99% @>46um whereas the endurance is 99% @ 20um. the 10575 size was tested by andrew at ascent filtration under the royal purple name. for construction the BOSS is hard to beat. not saying the endurance isn’t a well constructed filter but for a fair comparison.

Most of those in that test is irrelevant now. Wix was bought out and have had massive changes. The ultra has changed a lot well. Purolator fixed their tearing issues so could be some changes as well since 2021.

to say purolator fixed their tearing issues would be a exaggeration. the OG Ultra is gone and i do not reccomend the new style. however, the endurance beats the BOSS on efficiency hands down.

This guys testing seems pretty accurate. I’m not sure if the this is same way ascend tested the filters or not but from this information giving. If you want the best filtration amsoil is the way to go but straight off the shelf is he synthetic endurance is also a great filter. I never said it wasn’t. I just stated the results presented from 2021 are no longer accurate from major across many brands.
I haven’t seen or heard of anymore tearing issues so to my knowledge the issue is resolved unless of recent tearing issues have happened.

this is a back yard testing system that isn’t following industry standards. amsoil and endurance are the same filter.

After watching "Brand Reviews" YouTube series on oil filter testing and seeing such high efficiency results for the Purolator Boss, I reached out to Mann-Hummel for specification sheets on two Purolator Boss filters to see if the filtration efficiency has been improved. I can confirm that their newest specification sheets, dated for 08-11-2022 (PBL12222) and 05-15-2023 (PBL30001), both show the Boss to have 99% efficiency at >46 microns per ISO 4548-12. However, during Brand Ranks testing the Boss filter somehow out-performed the Fram Ultra and Royal Purple, both of which have higher efficiency numbers on paper. This also goes against the test Ascent Filtration performed showing the Boss to be significantly worse than the Royal Purple and Fram Ultra in efficiency testing. Since these test results conflict with each other regarding the Boss's performance, I'd have to refer the specification sheets coming straight from Mann-Hummel to conclude Brand Ranks results don't match established performance efficiency for the Boss.

BrandRanks should repeat the test. Whenever an outlier is encountered it’s an opportunity to discover something. Is it possible the media was changed? Is it possible a document is incorrect? Is it possible a test was performed incorrectly?

Nobody knows.
