Fram Defense

I seriously doubt that First Brands has made a single Defense series filter. Every Defense series filter that I have seen has a date code from a few years ago before First Brands bought out Fram. I recently purchased three of these filters from Mills Fleet Farm because all Defense series filters were on clearance sale for only $1.59. They may very well have been out of production for a while and may be getting replaced or simply discontinued at the retail level.

The one in your link has a Fram date code. First Brands/Trico is Fram at this time.

I just wanted to post an update after using a DL3593A for just over 3,000 miles on my 2012 Hyundai Accent. I cut open the filter this morning and there was nothing inherently wrong to report. No signs of tearing or other damage to the pleat or end caps, the ADBV was still functional and in good condition. I'm very pleased with these results and if I can snag some more of these in the future I will happily use them on my Hyundai.

Of note this Hyundai engine (Gamma GF4D) has a reputation for blowing oil filters apart internally which is why Hyundai strongly recommends using their OEM oil filter and nothing else. In light of that I think that this Fram Defense oil filter held up very well especially considering the fact that it is among the cheapest, jobber oil filters I've ever purchased. No signs of the dread knocking noises or other issues that are typical of using aftermarket filters on certain Hyundai engines.

Any idea or have service manual info that shows how much the maximum oil pump volume is? High oil flow is the only thing that puts stress on an oil filter.
