such as?

It took me a while, but I broke down and bought a quart of UCL and have been using it for a couple months now.

This stuff as no smell!

Is this merely a light oil .... like pail/pale oil?

I haven't been impressed with a Lucas product to date ... and it doesn't look like it's gonna be UCL that makes the turn.

I may be getting a tick-better mileage ... but then agian, I know I got better mileage with MMO ... close to 5%.

UCL says it's a lubricant ... and a cleaner ... but with no solvents. I've heard ATF used as a top-cylinder lubricant by some here (Gary Allen or The Tan Sedan?) so I can see how a plain oil-type-substance might work as a cleaner.

What does pale oil look like?

I bought a quart of UCL ... and I feel I've been had.

I've used Amsoil PI for 25 years and it seems to do an excellent job of keeping fuel injectors clean. I also use it in my lawn/garden equipment and the carbs on those are spotless.

If this is the LUCAS diesel and gasoline fuel additive, I have used it in both types of motors.

My old Chrysler ('71 383-powered) was tuned tighter than a snare drum for in-town throttle response and highway economy. It was also fuel quality sensitive, not just octane.

I preferred FUEL POWER any day, but the LUCAS helped in avoiding pinging. Just not quite as well as FP-60 or PRI-G.

As to ATF as an upper cylinder lube, I've certainly done it, but don't recall posting on it (that would have been around 15-20 years ago in V8 engines being asked to run at 2,800-plus rpm for several hours. Pre-1975 engines w/o fully hardened valve seats.) I couldn't say if it helped or not but had no problems afterwards.

I just got some good results on my used oil analysis posted in that section and had used Lucas UCL in every fill.

Not sure how much this helps, but I've used both. I haven't really noticed much of a difference other than the fact that the Lucas UCL is a thicker fluid.

I've tracked every single tank of gas in the Mazda3 in an Excel spreadsheet. I was just analyzing the data. We purchased our 3 in May '05 and I started using FP60 in Dec. '05. The first summer I didn't run any fuel system cleaners/lubricants. This summer I did. Between the two summers, there's been an avg. of +2 mpg in gas mileage (over a 5 month period).

Month - 2005/2006/Avg. Difference
Jan. - NA/29/NA
Feb. - NA/28/NA
Mar. - NA/28/NA
Apr. - NA/31/NA
May - 29/31/+2mpg
June - 29/30/+1mpg
July - 29/32/+3mpg
Aug. - 31/32/+1mpg
Sept. - 30/33/+3mpg
Oct. - 31/31/Even
Nov. - 28/NA/NA
Dec. - 28/NA/NA

To elaborate on the data:
Purchased car in May of 2005.
Started using FP60 in December of 2005.
Ran out of FP60 and switched to Lucas UCL in June of 2006.

Take it for what it's worth...

Lucas UCL or fuel adds do not impress this analyst based on UOA. Knowing that no one else has what is in FP and seeing consistently good UOA with it I do recommend it. I wish FP3000 would hit the streets.........

New gasoline SoyShield by Schaeffers would be a follow up add if FP cannot be procured. Techron is still a good bet too.

Chimay is one (UCL) application in hundreds of oil analysis reports that showed good results using other fuel adds. I would like to see his Toyota V8 in test with our Premium Service and get a read on his oxidation and nitration levels to gauge the effect of UCL or the reformulated fuels in use.

It was mentioned earlier at BITOG that the Top Tier fuels may be eliminating the need for fuel adds. As I promised I would comment on that effect....Well there may be something to that as I am seeing cleaner burns than last year to date. Need more time to verify the effect and what is contributing to it.

If UCL has been reformulated I am willing to give it a chance but as far as I know the formula is the same stuff and not that cutting edge by any means. I am always looking for the next best product to use to make sure my customers get the best in effect and value.
