I was at the local K-Mart this weekend looking for a back-up snow shovel (due to the recent snow storms) and made a trip to the lube aisle.

--My wife questioning why I "thought" the shovels might be near the automotive dept. rather than near garden/outdoor dept on the other side of the store--

There were several bottles of M1 0w30 SL sitting on the end shelf with no pricing. Is this a good oil or does anyone know of some spec's on it? Searching turned up little other than some debate about it being a "thin" 30wt. If I can talk the dept mgr into a good buy after explaining to him that it is a few years old stock, I'm thinking of cleaning them out. If the concensus here is that it's a good oil, I'll go for it. I'm assuming this is a Grp IV/PAO M1.

Thanks

I believe the Supersyn is Grp IV Mobil 1...so yeah, go for it!

Great oil, all around, and if you can get it for $4/qt or so, then it's a great buy!

M1 0W-30 SL is a good formulation, that's a great find!

but, just a minor example of K-Mart's business problems & how much money K-Mart must of had tied up in old inventory that was not moving!

BTW, love the "word to the wise" tagline.

I bought a lone bottle of M1 Ow30 Racing Oil at Adv Auto for $3. Not sure what to do with it, but the price seemed good.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to go back this week and try to talk them into a clearance deal. I will have to double check the bottle again, but I don't believe it was the M1 0w30 Racing Oil

This isn't the only old stock of oil they have either. There are plenty of dusty bottles to be found on their shelves.

And Blue99, I must give credit where it's due. The quote is courtesy of Bill Cosby.

I use and hoard it. I can get some SL a a local store too, but it's full price and I already have a big stash.

If label on bottles indicate compliance with OEM specifications in effect at time of manufacture, then I see no reason to pass up this opportunity.

As an example however, a few months back I had this same opportunity. I decided against purchase of that Mobil 1 SL in favour of SM because labels on those bottles had no indication of compliance of applicable OEM spec.

Call me pedantic, but OEM compliance is my top priority.
