Forum Suggestion-Seriously-Fix The Word Censor

I, like many here, have been warned and soured by an overly aggressive word censor.

I'm not really interested in creating more forum sludge or insulting the mods here or wanting to hear
if you don't like it get lost. So please spare me.

Common words here are censored and that brings on warnings and that upsets the poster and mods- owner.

Forums survive on donations. If you constantly warn and insult quality posters here they don't feel like the community
and they do not donate. I for one do not want to see or read a bunch of profanity. I see why religion and politics
are a no go. That is obvious. I have run my own forums since the 90's and I don't know how this word censor works but
I had the option of a manual one and I put in the words most people here do not want to see.

That captures the bad stuff without being overly aggressive and that stops the mods work and takes egos out of the mix.

For me to post a thread about cleaning bird mess off of windows I can't use the c word or the p word.

You can't say the opposite of Heaven here and a bad car can't be called the c word but only "junk"

If you override the censor you get the warning I did yesterday. This is a great place but insulting clean posters
makes them think twice about donating. And this week I was going to do so but am now put off that one little clean word I try to use will get me banned. So why contribute?

Many will not care. Those same people have no idea what it cost to host a forum. Over zealous mods may feed their egos
but how does that help the forum or its owner?

A simple reconfiguring of the word censor would go a long way in resolving the pettiness.
Just my 2 cents!

And yes if you don't override the censor you won't get a warning. That takes that off the list.

How many people here were contacted for over-riding the censor and warned and decided not to donate or left for a time?

How many newbies here were beaten to death verbally for asking who makes the best this or that? No warnings come
down for that activity. At worst the thread gets locked. But you can't say bird c here.

I have a different idea. How about you just word your posts so they don’t get censored and then you won’t have to make a useless post complaining about it? To my knowledge I’ve never been warned nor censored, nor have I seen a need to complain about it either. It’s not that hard.

Interesting post - well thought-out, and well expressed. I also belong to car forum, specific to a particular model of minivan, and the word censor there is very strict, to the point of being amusing. I have, for example, learned to not abbreviate "assembly" as the first three letters followed by an apostrophe followed by the letter y - the censor changes the first three letters to 'bum'.

Agreed, your proposed changes would be an improvement, but I still think this is an excellent forum. Lots of good posts, and genuinely helpful members.

How about treating others with respect.
You are one of the main abusers here.

Abuser? In what way? You mean like trying to keep posts on a technical level and on topic?

How would you know so much anyway, aren’t you a newbie too?

Zee09,

So you would suggest we uncensor the word c r a p ? What else?

Well thought out post, but you do make assumptions about who gets moderated and when. We moderate in a fashion so that we don't publicly admonish offenders, there is just no point in doing that.

You attack posters on a regular basis. You do it very often.
You call people trolls and the list goes on.
Most are ignorant of automotive issues and that is why they come here.
You are always the first to attack and chastise them.
You need to re-read your own postings. Maybe you don't even know you're doing it?

Thank you Wayne
I posted you some details and the server here crashed.
I was not publicly admonished and it was justified according to the rules.
Privately I was warned and it made this old fool feel like a 5 year old.

I just think a little more leniency on minor infractions would go a long way in making people here
feel a bigger part of this community and that in itself I would hope would bring more donations. That said,
hardcore abusers should be tossed. No argument there.

If all you wanted to post about was bird excrement then a word that wouldn't have triggered the censor would have been "droppings". That could have avoided the whole thing yet got your point across.

We always welcome specific ways to improve our beloved website. Many of the changes we've implemented over the years have been because someone in our community has suggested that change. If anyone would like to send me a PM about which words in the censor should be removed and we decide the change is an improvement, then we will make the change.

Thank you Wayne
I have a few from the post that got hung up. ( Will try to find more)
If everybody helps it would resolve a few issues.
Thank You!

Rennlist censors the word "knob," which I find hilarious.

Actually that is a great point

The heaven and "h" thing was mentioned here a few weeks back
But that can cause issues as it is easily used in a negative manner
