Hello All,

I've never used Formula Shell Oil and don't know anything about it. At a local hardware store they had cases of the oil in different viscosities for $1.29 a quart and I was wondering what all of you thought about the oil and the price? I have an 03 Astro work van with 157000 miles on it and just did a double Auto-RX and thought of using the Formula Shell in it. Any knowledge and suggestions would be appreciated. By the way I can't tell the Auto-RX did anything for my van except started the thing to start leaking oil when it didn't before I started the treatments. Any suggestions on what I can do about that and what should be done?

Thanks for any advice
Butch L.

Great stuff. I have several cases bought at the above mentioned 0.59/qt from Kragen.

I wish we could get the deals that they seem to have towards the west. We don't have any Kragens or any of those others. This store is 20 miles from me and I thought that a oil for $1.29 was cheap here. Even the regular dino Supertech runs about $1.50 a quart so I thought Shell oil at about 30 cents a quart cheaper would be better than nothing.

Thanks
Butch L.

I am using formual shell 5w30, as an auto rx rinse. Its about 30 degrees outside. Its an SL oil. SO far, my neon likes it, and seems to have a little bettter lubrication, than SM. I also suspect its a little thicker on on CCS side, maybe like 6,900, which would explain, why its jsut a tad bitter harder on startup, than most other oils ive used. Think its a great oil!

O/T - When someone thinks that an oil would be ok for a 3-4k OCI where as another 5k, would it be suspect that it would be less favorable to use the 3-4k oil by those who take longer to reach such mileage (short trips, etc.)? Though one is talking "opinion" here rather than hard data, I guess it's worth nothing than more stuff about oil to mull over.?.

So if I understand right, the oil is good oil but its not long term OCI or maybe not even short term OCI. Which confuses me to decide should I use it or shouldn't I??? I don't know what to do about my van starting to leak oil in more places to count after the Auto-RX when it didn't leak before the Auto-RX treatment. I took the opinion from this board of people that I should treat my van twice since at the time it had around 150000 miles on it so I treated it and its now leaking. People here might praise this stuff but I have decide it is not worth a #@$%!. It will cost me many hundreds of dollars to fix if it keeps leaking like it is. Anybody know why it started leaking oil after the treatments and what I should do to try and fix or at least slow it down? As far as I'm concerned the Auto-RX people should give me my money back so I can at least have $50 towards what it's going to take to try and fix my leaking. Any knowledgable suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks
Butch L.

Unless you have a sludge prone engine or turbo, most mainstream SL/SM oils seem to post fine UOAs for 3-5k and many times longer.

Only a UOA will tell you how long that oil's good for. If I didn't keep my vehicles from birth to death, I would chance a 5-7K OCI.

Any SM oil should be fine for up to 5000 miles but I dont like to go any higher on dino oil.(just my

As for the Auto-RX, it has a money back guarantee so I would contact them.

I'm not seeing why mine won't last 250k or more given 7-10k OCIs with the cheapest 5W30 and filters under short trips.

Yes one comment!

I doubt your engine lasts that long - also without any engine-interior repairs.

Any more questions Critic?

I see Shell motor oil a lot in this area. For the $$, and fact that I'm not keeping this car for more than 5 years, it's what I should be using!

Well, did you watch those videos I posted? It shows my valvetrain to be equally as clean as some of the engines run on premium oil and filters.

Oh, and I've replaced some leaking spark plug tube seals when the valve cover was off. Does that count as "internal" repairs?
