Very cool! I'm a die-hard F1 follower (yes, I was awake at 2:00am to watch the Suzuka race last weekend

) but having UOA's on the spot like that would just be plain awesome.

I can see how testing the oil is helpful to them, but what would change if they did it after the race? I mean they won't stop the race to let them make a repair on the spot, so I'm not seeing how having the lab right there does much to help them win that particular race. And wouldn't their fuel be tested and packed up by them, before the race to insure there will be no problems? So it looks like they are just putting on a show and advertising dance.,,

Well, if there was MASSIVE amounts of wear materials, they could change the engine before the race and simply incur a grid penalty.

And they do need to test the fuel. There have been many cases over the years of cars getting disqualified as something wasn't quite right with the fuel and it no longer met spec.

Well how much excessive wear would they have before a race that they wouldn't know about? When prepping a car for a race I think they could tell if somethings wrong,so being track side wouldn't help much at that point. And don't they test there fuel before they pack it up for the race so what would change? They don't buy it from the local gas station.,,

+1

And they also test the gearbox oil.
